What is the best benchmark to make sure my CFX 290x is working as it should?

There is no "best" for this kind of situation,you can use furmark it will put a lot of stress on your vga while showing you some info temps speeds and so on.
If your vga start to show artifacts or simply crashes than there is a problem.

You can run the latest 3dmark and when finished it will show you comparisons to other systems that have similar scores.

Furmark is garbage it only over heats the GPU, Why over heat with no benefit what so ever!
