Best Basic MB for P4 3.06GHz HT chip with DDR333?

I need to build a system for someone that wants a P4 3.06GHz HT CPU chip.
Usually I build Athlon XP systems using nForce2 chipset MBs, so I am not up to speed on all the motherboards for Intel CPUs.

The system will likely have DDR333 RAM (no RAMBUS) and a EIDE hard drive. (serial ATA option not needed)
Soundblaster Audigy 2 or Turtle Beach Santa Cruz for Audio. (will not be using integrated audio)
ATI 9700 based video card (do not want integrated video!)

One of the motherboards I have come up with so far is the: ASUS P4PE/L
Any suggestions or comments on this board or other recommendations would be apreciated! 🙂

Thanks!

Check out the basic canterwood(875) boards like the Abit IC7 or the Gigabyte GA-8IK1100. Those are around $150 Otherwise I would wait a little and get a springdale(865) based board.
Should be able to get one for around $125 or less. Saw a post that the Abit IS7 was $114 at someplace.

If he want a 3.06 533 FSB, maybe you should also let him know that there are also 3.0 800 FSB HT CPUs available and see if he is interested.

If you want go SC DDR, there are many nice 845PE boards available. Albatron PX845PEV Pro, Abit BH7, Asus P4PE, EPoX 4PEA. Intel also makes some very nice 845PE boards, but no overclocking. Very solid though.

If you want to go DC DDR, the 875 boards are nice, but tend to come "loaded". SATA is standard. With no overclocking, the Intel D875PBZ is tops. The Abit IC7, Asus P4C800 are also good boards.

Found a place that has the IS7 www.gameve.com. I would rather go with a 865P based board rather than a 845P based. I'm waiting too see what Asus' version is like.
May have features you don't need now. But since the price is similar nice to have just in case. I would also go dual channel to get as much performance out of that cpu. Otherwise it will be crippled a little running the memory single channel.

Here's an excellent review on the i865 and i875 chipsets:

Googlegear was the one selling the iS7 for $114 shipped 2nd day air -- but they're out of stock right now.
