I got a BFG 6600gt PCI-E and am wondering since Fear,Quake 4,ect are coming I wouldn't mind upgrading to a 256mb video card. Is there a best bang for your buck like the 6600gt was 6 months ago or is it still the best bang for you buck card? Or is there no low budget 256mb video card?

I want to see a noticeable different if possible.

check out Sapphire's x800GTO2 (the 2 here means *squared*, not 2nd version lol)
Right now it's $203.94 on eWiz, and its easily OCable to an x850XT, or so i heard
check out the stats of it on AT's home page under the "Price Guides, October 2005: Video Cards" thread

I'm not sure how much you can OC to the 6800GT, but it's a no brainer that 6600GT can NEVER OC to the x850XT level, which the GTO2 is capable of.

oh btw, whats qft? lol

well sniper82 here didn't ask for a mid range card, he asked for the "best bank for [my] buck video card". I'd think right now, the best bang for my buck would be x800gto2 by Sapphire so I suggested that.

I would like something a bit faster than my 6600GT if possible. Would the x800gto2 be faster? I guess I should have mentioned I really don't like o/cing video cards.

If you're not going to overclock it that takes away a lot of the appeal.

What's your budget?

But would it be worth it to upgrade from a 6600gt?

Nope. Not even worth it to upgrade to 7800GTX.

What if I was gonna sell the 6600GT to get a chunk of the money back?

Then yes. A X800XL can be found for under $250 and makes it a great deal for someone who doesn't want to overclock their gpu.

I think if you can move up to a 7800gt you're getting good bang for your buck too considering it doesn't cost much more than a 6800gt at the moment.

I wouldn't exactly call it a budget card though.

If you don't wish to OC, then the X800XL is good.

There's also some X800XTs out there for around ~$320ish i believe.

Do you have an SLI MoBo? - you could get another 6600GT (which will give you the performance of a 6800Ultra/X850XT, depending on what setting's you're using.)

Right but here's the full deal laid out for OP:

option 1: buy another 6600gt and an SLi mobo - benefits = double the performance, negatives = you need another mobo

option 2 - sell your 6600gt & buy an X800XL for $250ish - for a long time this has been a good option but nowadays it's not so hot

option 3 - buy an X850XT PE (used in trading forums for $300ish)- clearly the best card ATi offers right now for only a little more than their mid range card.

option 4 - screw it & buy a 7800gt or gtx - if you can do this more power to you.

option 5 - buy a $200 X800GTO as mentioned before & overclock it to X850XT (possibly even Platinum Edition) speeds & enjoy the best bang for the buck on the market.

Personally I recently went with option 3 because I don't care for overclocking & flashing either, but it is supposedly a pretty easy job with the X800GTO. It's your money but if you want to keep it at or under $200 you need to go the X800 route. You could always wait to overclock & flash it until the need arises...

I think I will go with a GTO. When you are say I needed the square GTO what do you mean by that and how can I tell if it is or not? Any certain brand you all recommend.

Go with the X800GTO2. Once you unlock/overclock it, it should be faster than a 6800 Ultra, except in Doom 3 ;)

some seller on ebay is selling a package: Sapphire x800GTO2 along with a CD that HE CLAIMS will simply OC the card to a x850XT. Any idea whether it's true?

PS: DON'T buy from him though, such a rip off...like 350US + shipping from EUROPE...hahaha
