Best bang for the buck?

Ok, just built a mid range system, Core2 E7400 4GB. What is the best bang for the buck graphics card? I'm not looking low end, but maybe a middle and a high end choice.

I'm trying to stay as cheap as possible for the best card...

how big is your buck? That's the important question.

Right now, the best bang for the buck is either a NVIDIA GTX260+ or an ATI 4870 1GB in the $180 range, depending on what's on sale.

the 4870 512mb is a much better card and better deal than the 9800gtx. that is the best bang/buck in your price range.

If there is a 4870 at 150, that is the best. If not, then I would go with a 9800GTX+ over a 4850 b/c of better cooler unless you don't like dual slot cooling..

edit: o yeah, better warranty and manufacturer at the same price point with 9800GTX+ (EVGA)

Can you link one that is under $130?

Yeah that's why I suggested the 9800GTX+ well within your price range.

Wreckage, see if you can find this guy the cheapest 4870 512 you can. You're always scouring for prices, so you may have better sources.

I actually checked newegg (that's as far as I generally scour and could not find one for around $150).

The cheapest there is $175 after a $20 rebate

For that price you may as well start looking at a GTX260 or 1GB 4870.

However these are all out of the OPs budget. Maybe you can get him some sort of inside deal?

Again I was answering the question as asked "best card for around 150".

If you're referring to the black and blue HIS one -- I was camping that hot deal the past couple of days and the price went back up a few hours ago.

Thanks dude.

So there you have it OP. In your price range are 9800GTX or 4850. Both cards are comparable so it all depends on which one you can find cheaper.

HD4850 is around $100, but you can also get the HD4870 for roughly $200, sometimes less if you can find a good deal. I would say get the HD4850, I bought it a while back for about $180 and it was great performance for the price then and still is now.
