x800XL is really good price/performance if you are looking for something more high end than a 6600GT

6600GT is the super sweet spot, but if you're looking for more performance than that, I'd definatly say that the x800s are pretty darn good for their price.

I'd say X800XL because it gives you 2x the performance of a 6600GT but costs less than 2x more. 6600GT is a solid choice in the under $200 category.

In your case, I wouldnt upgrade to anything less than x800xl.

get a 6600gt...why? great performance, cheap, AND has shader model 3.0...you'll want that.

Why is everybody recommending a 6600GT?! He already has a 9800 Pro, a 6600GT isn't worth the upgrade!

If you want to upgrade from your 9800 Pro, the card you picked (X800XL) is probably the best bang for buck right now.

Is he using PCI-E or AGP? Two totally different answers :).

6800gt for AGP.
x800xl for PCI-E (assuming he's using a 9800).

All opinions are biased in some way. Thats why they are opinions.

MY opinion is the best bang for the buck is a Ti 4600, Radeon 9500 or 9700. But if you need a high-end directX 9 card, then your pick is actually pretty nice.

sapphires along with BBA x800pros even vivo models have the pipes laser cut. yuo cna reenable them, but it involves using conductive paint. het some HIs or something.

I dont think you know what you are talking about because I have personally modded 2 sapphire x800 pro's with vivo successfully. Conductive paint? Id like to see someone that can "spakle" some conductive paint into a laser cut and make the four remaining pipes work let alone stable. Have you ever seen a real x800 core with a laser cut?

I was just browsing newegg and was amazed to see that 9800 pros are $155. I swear less than a month ago the were still over the $200 mark

I'll probably go with the X800XL. I probably won't be able to overclock anything, i'll be surprised if i don't see artifacts right away at stock speeds from all the heat.

Thanks for the help.

no new cards can be flashed. all are laser cut. (all new vivo cards, oddly enough are BBA and Sapphire) [either sapphire or powercolor makes the european versions of the BBA cards i believe.]

I withdraw my 6600GT reccomendation, you want either a 6800 or higher or X800pro or higher for a significant speed upgrade.

Didnt notice you had a 9800p.

Crud, i just remembered i need an AGP card, so that kinda screws things up for me. Hard to find AGP cards, and they always cost more it seems.
