Best Bang For the Buck Shaver?

I'm in the market for an electric shaver. Really doesn't matter if it is corded or cordless. Doesn't need a moustache trimmer on it. My beard is pretty heavy.

I tried one about 20 years ago and it sucked. It would leave patches of forest growing, and I did try it for about 3 months and my beard could never get used to it. I'd like to keep it around $75 or so? Maybe more if it is definitely worth it...

I currently have one that is a twin blade rotary (two sets of rotating discs on each head). Does better than my cheap single blade one I had prior. I'd go with 2-3 blades minimum, 3 if you have had problems in the past. As you go up in price really the only differences as I see them are like a cleaning base and stuff like that. Some use titanium coated blades, dunno if it makes a real difference or not. Prices seem to be about 35 for single blade corded, 55 for dual blade cordless, 85 for three blade cordless. Then there are some in the 150-200 range that I have no experience with.

Thanks for the info. What about the difference between a rotary and a flat foil head?

Electric, man up and get a straightedge and experience the best shave you ever had.

Electric shavers are for vaginas ...everyone knows this...;)

Yah, I shave with a straight edge and safety razor, mostly because I trim my beard to the jaw line, and doing so is hard with the straight edge given the angle. If you want an electric trimmer, consider whether you'd use it in the shower or outside of the shower. If you never plan to trim in the shower, get corded. It'll last longer and be a LOT more powerful. Always make sure you shave/trim after a shower, whether it's electric or not.

My hair tunnels through my skin when I use a razor... I'll stick with electric.

I bought some random one with 3 circular heads. They seem to work a lot better than to two straight line ones for me. Have to put a little effort into making my hairs stand up to get as close as doing a quick shave against the grain (does better than with the grain easily though).

I second Doug with going corded. Dealing with batteries/charging is way more of a hassle than just plugging it in in my opinion.

Booey, I do prefer a razor. However, my beard grows so fast that I need a shaver that I can use in the office. I shave @ 6am right before I leave for work, but there are some nights I have City Council meetings @ 6pm and I do need to shave again :)....

Thanks for the suggestions,

Bob

Philips are pretty good. I still have my first from 10 years ago, still going strong. Have never changed the blades, but then again, I don't have that much facial hair. A Mach 3 shave lasts 2 days for me; if it weren't for the not-fully-developed symmetrical stubble, I could probably go longer.

Straight razor. One time expense. Will last forever. You can even will it to your kids when you die. In an economic sense, best bang for the buck.

I do have a straight razor (Got one that is about 100 years old, too), but I must have an electric for in the office....

I do like the Phillips posted above and think I may go that way...

Shaving has come a long way from what it used to be. At first flint razors were used but eventually with the invention of the other metals, copper and steel razors started being used. At first fats and oils were used as lubrication but now with soap or shaving cream, well you can imagine just how much easier shaving has gotten! Checkout SPAM LINK DELETED
I don't think so. I'm gonna stick with my flint razor. It's tried and true technology.

I just don't shave, that's probably the most economical way. :p

Seriously though for a shaver I find it's worth spending a decent amount for a good quality one. I have a Braun and it's pretty good and gets a close shave. Now days it does not get lot of mileage though since I let the beard grow and just shave the neck area.

OK so this thread is 7 years old but I will say my favorite razor ever is the Braun 7000 series.
