I may be new here, but it seems...unbalanced to even think of running a 7800GT card with a 3000+ processor. Wouldn't you want to be =AMD Athlon64 4000+/Opteron 165? I have always been of the opinion that you want to buy a processor that costs more than your video card, but lately, I would probably change that to nearly as much... :)

6800GS is a good deal right now, but the Connect3d GTO is also a good deal, for 165 AR. This card has been known to unlock to 16 pipes(very high rate), and even if it doesn't unlock it OCs like crazy. Should be able to get 6800GS overclocked scores from an overclocked Connect3d GTO with 12 pipes. Should get more with all 16 unlocked.

If you really want SM3, I think that the 7800GT is the best way to go, esp when you can get it for 299 AR with call of duty 2

GT - perfectly justified in price since GS is only 33% less money but performs at least 33% slower as well. Besides better tech is on card.

I'd get a 3200 since it's same price as 3000, plus it's trivial to make into a 3800 and still retain stock memory settings.

I agree best bang for buck when modded - but then you have to use ATi's bloated crappy drivers.:D So maybe not...

You're going to need a good OCing mobo to get that 3000+ pumped up, since it only has a 9x multiplier.
