Best bang-for-the-buck CPU/MB/VID for Linux?

I know when new hardware comes out it takes a little bit of time for it to be supported in linux. What would be the best CPU/Motherboard/Video card that would be fully supported in linux? I will definitely be running XWindows (KDE) and am still learning linux, so I don't want to recompile the kernel if I don't have to. Here's what I was looking at:

Athlon XP 2500+ Barton MHz FSB
Asus A7v8x-x MB
FX5200 128MB Video card

These total about $250 and thats about where I'd like to stay. If anyone knows a better combo then I'm open. I know NVidia has linux drivers, but my main worry was about the 333MHz FSB. Does that stuff matter, since its still an i386 architecture processor? Is it handled by the motherboard and then anything can run it? I definitely plan on running SuSE 8.2 on the new machine. Thanks.

The Harddrive should be a no brainer...that will work...80GB is nice

Are you running Xwindows/GUI or all text? I assume a GUI.

512MB also a no brainer, memory I have yet to hear about any problem with an OS

so...perhaps edit the post and ask with a 2500+ Barton/A7V8X-X/FX5200 be the best bang for buck LINUX combo?

The video I think becomes the hardest solution in LINUX.

I use linux extensively (for those who want to know, I use Gentoo @ gentoo.org) and I can tell you that you made some great choices. AMD and the P4 are both supported very well, however I have personally found the Thoroughbreds to be a lot faster in Linux (side by side comparison) and it was noticable. I would say you made a good choice, though I would have gone with simply a GeForce 4 Ti4200 128Mb card since the GeForce FX's aren't worth it for what I do.

ATI has decent support of linux, but it is no where near the level of nvidia's support of linux (though it is getting very good), so definitely stick with nvidia. I had a friend who had a lot of troubles with the A7N8X in linux (I really couldn't solve it either), and so what I did was get a KT400-based motherboard instead...just to be safe. I really don't notice anything different between the two (I have my Athlon XP 1800+ Thoroughbred overclocked to use a 333Mhz FSB instead), so you're going to be just fine. So, overall, I would say you made excellent choices. I can say, without a doubt, that you picked some quality hardware that works well with linux.
