should be able to get a 4200 in that price range easily enough, perhaps if you go used you could get one with 128mb

Unless he's running on a GF2MX, the 5200 would be a *downgrade* (and even then, it's more of a 'sidegrade'). Of course, it's better than nothing.

A GF4Ti4200 would be a solid card if you can find one at that price point. You might look for a RADEON 9600 non-pro 128MB (not the 9600SE, the regular 9600, and not the 256MB version, which is underclocked)... you might be more likely to find one of those in the $60-70 price bracket.

GeForce4 is probably the best way to go. I might try to find a Radeon 9600 or GeForce FX (anything above a 5200) just for better DX9
support in games. I've got an AOpen GeForce4 Ti4200 128MB DDR 4xAGP that overclocks pretty nicely if you're interested ;-)
I'm about to upgrade to a Radeon 9800XT, so I won't have much use for it.....
Drop be a line @ FbrdPhreak@hotmail.com if you're interested

I'm also confused as to what is a good video card for under 100 bux. I currently have a TI4200 and a TI4600. For something around 100 bux on pricewatch, I see there is a ATI 9600 Pro 256 meg. Is this a good video card compared to my Ti 4200? How many "times" faster is it. Thanks.

9600 Pro 256MB for $100? Sorry, you need to read closer. That's a 9600, not 9600 Pro. A 9600 Pro will be around $130.
I moved from a GF4 Ti 4200 to a 9600 XT, and it's not worth it..
If you don't want to spend $200, don't upgrade your video card right now.
The best card you can get for =< $100 right now is a GF4 Ti 4200 or 4800SE (which is a AGP 8x 4200).

First of all Pricewatch is not very precise and sometimes it shows incorrect information. In this case if you click on the ATI 9600Pro 256mb @ $99 you will see all the cards up to the first one starting at $131 are not 9600pro cards but only 9600 cards which are broke. Furthermore, the 9600 pro 256mbs come with 400mhz memory instead of 600mhz making them a hell lotta slower than a 9600 pro with 128mb.
And in conclusion, 4200 and 4600 are just as fast in games without AA/AF enabled, but suck with those features. A good upgrade from a 4200/4600 series would be at least a 9700Pro or 5900xt derivative card.

The 9100 is basically an 8500LE, and the Ti4200 is slightly faster. The 9600 Pro is about equal to a Ti4600 if not a bit slower, so I'd say that the Ti4200 is a bit faster than the 9600.
