Best Bang for Buck Video Card? Please help me.

Hello,

I used to be up on all the video cards a while back... when 3dfx was all there was really.

Recently I have gotten rather out of touch with the new ATI and NVidia cards.

So, my question to you knowledgable people out there is... which video card, ATI or NVidia, I don't really care, can offer the best performance for its price, best bang for buck, so to speak?

I am looking to spend around $200 +- $30 I guess.

I currently have a standard Asus GeForce3 card, and I am looking to upgrade. It still holds up to most games, but I will upgrade if the price is right.

What would you guys recommend?

If you can find one a Radeon 9800 non pro is around $250 and is a pretty good performer for the price. It's not much slower than the 9800 pro but is much cheaper. I went from a Geforce 3 like you and with anisotropic filtering and anti-aliasing the image it produces is a big improvement over the Geforce 3 where af and aa are pretty much unusable. I got the Sapphire version and so far it's working pretty good. If you want to save more on the price the Radeon 9600 Pro is supposed to be a good deal while not in the same league as the 9800. I'm not up much on the current crop of Nvidia cards though so I can't help you there. You can check out prices at www.pricewatch.com.
 
I believed once the latest crops of nvidia or ati gfx cards released which is soon to be on the shelves, then you can simply just pick either one of those previously in the highest end for your liking?
 
best bang for the buck imo is 9600 pro. Especially if you wanan save a little bit of money. 160-170 for a good 9600 pro 128mb shipped, great deal if you ask me... runs in dx9 games with the 5900 and at times beats it
