why not just get an opteron 144, it will overclock as high as the 148. thats bang for the buck.

Get rid of the seagate, if you want theier waranty buy a 7200.9, the 8 serries was substandard and rather unreliable.

Looks good, i'd drop down to the 146 to get the slightly better binned chips but still save some cash, otherwise pretty much spot on.

 

[OSX]

You could get a 4U server rack case and save some more money, though not all come with PSU's. If you were willing to give up a little performance, you could get some Corsair value and put the money towards a faster processor.

Just keep everything you have and snag the 7800 GT. Your cpu is fine.

if you want bang for buck, ditch that memory!! Just get 2gb of $150 value ram. No need to get that higher performance stuff unless you're overclocking.

Bang for buck also includes future viability. with the money saved from the RAM I'd opt for an X2 3800+ or an Opty 165.

That case isn't really bang/buck either. Try the Coolermaster 5 (i think its called) - theres a whole bunch of nice ~$60 cases out there. Then get a Fortron 450w power supply for $50.
