Time to give some lesser known bands some love :) So, if you've got a band/artist or two or twenty that you think really kicks ass but most people don't know of us let's hear it :)

Floater - Oregon based trio. Grunge/Metal. I'm having a hard time coming up with much of a review for them so I'll just suggest you go pick up Glyph. You wont be disappointed.

Soil - Metal. They had one semi-hit (at least here) a couple years ago titled Halo. No, not the game ;) The rest of the Scars album is great though. I'd liken them to Drowning Pool. Not quite the same but the closest I could come up with.

Down - Side project of Phil Anselmo, formerly of Pantera. GREAT stuff. Hard rock/metal with a lot of southern rock/blues influences. They have two albums. NOLA and Down II: A Bustle in Your Hedgerow. Pick them both up. They're both exceptional.

That's all I can come up with. Lets hear yours :)

Anberlin - great Goo Goo Dolls-type band with a great lead singer
SR-71 - they're more well known, but they sort of fell off the face of the earth after "Right Now," their first single

I heard Anberlin before - went to a concert they were at, caught a stick. I was about to get a second, but the girl walked off. :|

The W's - swing band. :D

From Autumn to Ashes, a very talented metalcore group along the lines of Zao, Focal Point, Living Sacrifice, etc. Tend to be a tad emo-ish at times, and the lyrics are generic teen angst, but the music is brilliantly written, and for dealing with such generic struggles, the lyrics are surprisingly well-written.

Driver Eight - pop-ish indy/alt rock
The Sidewinders - basic alt. rock

Speaking of unknown bands, where are some good places to go on the 'net to (legally) hear some new stuff? Radio's gotten stale and repetitive, and my friends are into older stuff - much older, like Sinatra and such. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but sometimes I'd like to hear some stuff that came out after 1990. :)

A group called Splendid from Australia is awesome. The leader singer from Frente, another good but hidden band, started this group. I had to buy my CD from Australia, but it was well worth the money, and it was cheaper than most store bought CD's with shipping.

Marvelous 3's first album, Math and Other Problems, was the best of their three awesome albums. This band was special and good, which is why they never made it on radio except for "Freak of the Week" and "Sugarbuzz".

Some other choices: Propellerheads, Gerty (www.gerty.org), Anet (www.anetmusic.com), Evoka (www.evokamusic.com), The Flaming Lips, Lush, Cibo Matto, They Might Be Giants.

You can hear a ton of small-time really good bands on XM radio. There is this station, Unsigned, that plays nothing but this type of music. http://unsigned.xmradio.com . The website has a non-live sample feed.
