I actually thought of the Verve, since they had two brilliant albums, then self-destructed after they were forced to give all the proceeds from "Bittersweet Symphony" to ex-Rolling Stones touring manager Allen Klein. Of course, their incessant heroin use couldn't have helped!

I saw the Verve live in SF in 1997 or so - they were awesome.
