It's crazy how fast your picture collection grows once you have a kid :) Is there an easy and inexpensive way to backup all the pictures and videos?

I'm currently burning them into blank dvds but wanted to also save them onto another drive. Any suggestions?

The absolute safest backup location for most individuals is on a hard drive someplace. Offsite is the very best, in case of fire, theft, flood, etc.

If you are using Windows XP or Vista PCs, then Windows Home Server is a great choice. Backups and backup management are fully automated, and restoring your entire PC is automated, too. You can build your own pretty cheaply, or buy a $550 HP model. Use the WHS for backups, not as your ONLY storage location.

Alternatively, you can send copies of your data to another PC or send copies to an external USB/Firewire/SATA hard drive. Those drives are dirt-cheap nowadays.

I wouldn't trust my only copies of anything important to burned DVDs. They are too much work to make and aren't reliable enough.

Thanks for the reply - yeah I was trying to move away from DVDs.
Is there a way so that I can hook up a USB sata drive so that it would automatically backup to that USB drive? Looks like WHS backup is the way to go and I have a spare drive that I can dump to but U;n not sure about finding a ext. usb drive for it.

Any suggestions?

I use mozy.com to backup all my photos, it only $5/month. It's all automated, and I haven't had a problem restoring files. I have 13.2GB backed up currently.
