For gaming. Want to spend roughly around $150 < or > Will be dropping in a AMD Phenom II X4 965 BE. HAS to have 2 PCIE slots, and would be nice (although not necessary) to have the quick connect thing and 6 SATA ports as well as a e-SATA...that would be nice :)

You mentioned you wanted 2 PCIe slots so i went with the GX chipset not the G in the board you mentioned, the GX will do 8x/8x the G only 16x/4x so the GX is a better board for crossfire. Also the 850 southbridge is better than the 710. Good luck with your build!

Um...this WILL be a HUGE performance increase over my 775 Gigabyte board and Core 2 Duo 8400, correct? Not only the motherboard, but the AMD Phenom II X4 965 BE CPU as well.

yeah it will be. However if i could swing it i would probably go with 1155 right now, all other sockets are dead end right now.

i know, thats why i said if you could swing it, would be worth waiting a month or 2 till you can save the cash imo.

Yeah, but it might also be worth it to get something cheap & fast, and then see what AMD brings to the table in those months coming up, if anything, by then, prices for SB setups will come down.

Not quite as large as maybe you are hoping.

Here is the Anandtech bench results comparing those 2 exact CPU's

Gaming results are nearly identical but modern multithreaded benchmarks do show a slight edge to the Phenom ][ X4 965 BE, but not by much considering it has double cores.

Okay, so now I am a little depressed...LoL...I said a LITTLE depressed. Listen, I'm just like most here...never happy with what I have after a while, and looking for upgrade :) My computer is never "done"....only between upgrades. I know that is someone's signature here, and it defines ME perfectly :)

If what I intend on doing doesn't give me the performance increase I am looking for, then why am I planning on spending the money? :) Maybe I should just get a quad to drop into this board, and spend the money on new graphics card. Looking at the MAJORITY of results of my HD 5850 VS a HD 5970 and later down the road maybe buy another one to run in SLI, but I am "concerned" that my CPU will be a bottleneck?

http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/164?vs=165

I REALLY hate my Gigabyte EP45-UD3P motherboard....it has NEVER held my 3.6 OC, as neither did the other GB I had before it :(

Thank you for the link to the comparison page nenforcer...now I can take a look around and see what will be the best for what I want to do.

As stated previously...I am just looking for a change. My games and apps are running just fine, but I want better. Been a couple years, and it is time for change :)

For the type of performance increase you are looking for you are about 5-6 months away on the AMD side before they release 8-Core Bulldozer CPU's and about 8-9 months away on the Intel side before they release 8-Core Ivy Bridge Socket 2011 CPU's.

I would suggest you wait until the end of this year before upgrading.

You will have much better options than what is currently available.

Thank you. I really do NOT have the money to spend on anything that will not give me the increase that I would like to see. Everything I have is good enough for what I do for the most part...the exception, of course, being Crysis...but even that is playable on my system.

So, I again, say thanks for the advice.

Update: Found the PROPER way to OC the 8400 on this GB board, and now have it over-clocked to 3.8 stable with temps in low 30s. I don't want to try pushing it further, and don't feel I need to. However, the fan on my 5850 died yesterday, so I am not going to be gaming for a couple days until I get my new HSF for it.
