Best aproach for TV-out

I don't have a stand alone dvd player, but I do have an Aopen 12x dvd player and Ati Radeon VIVO. It says that S-video out has better quality than the regular tv-out. How do I use S-video?

You need to use an S-Video cable and have a TV that has an S-Video in plug. Unfortunately, most older TVs don't have this, in fact you are lucky if you have composite "RCA" inputs on an older TV. The composite inputs are adequate for TV out though if that is what you have. There should have been a short S-video cable that came with your video card for comparison to the RCA cables.

Well, there are ways to work around it, but S-Video does offer the best performance for TV-Out, so it is the best thing to use if you can. If you have the RCA outs and can plug those directly into your TV, then you can use that, or if your TV doesn't even have RCA jacks, then you can probably run them through your VCR (assuming your VCR has them). the problem with this route is that most DVDs are scrambled so sending them through the VCR causes a poor picture. you can get around this by getting a video stabilizer here. The other option is an RF modulator that can take the RCA jacks and switch it to coaxial so you can go straight to the TV. These are available at Radio Shack and Walmart among other places.

You can use the composite cable or Svideo to go to the TV. If your TV has neither you can go through your VCR to your TV. When you go through your VCR the picture fades in and out though! If you have a newer TV you should have Svideo in port or RCA jacks.

It should be the same as hooking up your TV and VCR, except that the output device is the video card instead of the VCR.

Do they make a card that adds tv out compatibility? I think ATI has an all in wonder of sorts... I need to be able to tv out to a tv on a computer with a crappy 8 meg video card.
