Hey guys. anyone got any suggesstions on what you would considere the best Antivirus program?

What I mean by best is.. Like, that uses the least resources, causes the least lag, you know.. I want something I can run 24/7 , that will make no lag difference in games and what not, so I can always have it running, preferably with a fast scan time, frequent (at least weekly) updates, and .. Like when it says their is a virus found, I WANT IT TO DO SOMETHING ;) ..

not "Quarantine failed, file moved" or something like that. . thx :)

Don't want your anti-virus software to effect your games? Get a P4 with HT or a dual core processor.

well .. I had something called Innoculate and I didnt notice that.. I understand any processes pretty much will slow it down but just as long as it isnt too bad (as in like a ping from 95 to 100 is aight but not 100 to 300...)

Yeah thanks man I looked up a dead thread and seen that listed.

I still would feel safer with something that people put money into though and actually spend time trying to find and fix viruses .

I use Zonealarm for my PC. I play Halo, and I cannot stand those hacker kids. They did some crazy things to my PC, like make Halo automatically quit on me, and did something with my old Norton Internet Security. I ditched Norton and purchased the Zonealarm Security suite. Not only is the Antivirus great, the firewall is awesome. I love when something tries to access your PC, it gives an IP address. So anytime those stupid little gamer hackers try to mess with me again, I get their IP, and I get my "revenge."

Also, Zonealarm Security suite has gotten 5 stars in many PC magazines. And the Antivirus works a hell of a lot better than anything I have used. Norton didn't pick up as many viruses it did, nor did Mcaffee.

I highly recommend Zonealarm! :)

meh... I tried the free version of Zone Alarm and I despise it.. It would never remember settings on allowing simple stuff like MSN and Firefox and would constantly ask me if I wanted to let it in... then I tried to uninstall the bastard and it never went away! o_O and still boots up occasionally..

Does Virusscan Enterprise have a website?

Edit: nevermind. Does it lag any?

What games do you play? And... When it says a virus is found... does it give you options like "delete" "Move to quarantene" "allow" etc.. and when you choose the option, does it actually do it besides letting it multiply and whatnot i.e is it 100% effective so far for you?

I agree with best overall being Kaspersky. I'd probably go without before using some of the AV's mentioned.

Still not what you asked for, but I use free Antivir. It caught a virus that Norton let through, doesn't lag my games at all, and I'm on 56k, and they update virus definitions many times throughout the week. You can pay for it also but I don't see the point in that. The downsides are a slow update speed ( not an issue if on broadband), and not the fastest scanner, although I don't think I'd trust an antivirus that scanned too fast ( maybe missing things).

I wouldn't get too hung up on price. Just because a product's free it doesn't mean that it doesn't work well. These companys make their money through corporate licensing.Giving away a free product for individuals to use gets their name out there so people will remember them and purchase the product for their companies.

Running two antivirus programs at the same time is probably not your best move  The guy suggesting VirusScan Enterprise... uhhh... they sell a minimum of a five-pack on that, last I checked ;)

I use ZoneAlarm Pro suite 5 whenever I play online games, it doesn't give me any problems. I don't use ZoneAlarm pro anti virus I use Norton NAV 2002 instead.

just use avast. if it does find a virus though, it asks what you want to do with it...so you probably wont like that. but it never does it to me in a game.

but only use avast alone. its all you need.

antivir has a better detection rate than avast (check the links in the guide to the best antivirus) and antivir also uses less system resources.

I went through this about 2 years ago, and settled on using AntiVir (free for private use). It works well, and seems to use little or no resources once a full scan is completed on install.
