best antivirus prog ? NAV or McAffee ?

hi,

i am running NAV Pro 2003 under Win XP Pro - and i am wondering if there are better anti virus programs around.

Eg. how is McAffee in comparison to NAV ? Is it better ?

I haven't used Mcafee in a while but have been happily using Norton '03 for a while now and I will never go back to Mcafee.
 
AVG has found stuff that NAV and Mcafee scanned right over. Happened just the other day with HACKARMY.A Troj. At first AVG found it but couldnt remove it or repair it. I then tried several others including NAV and Mcafee. AVG was the only one that would even detect it and it removed it the second time I scanned. I consider it to be the BEST out there and it is FREE.................. BUT I do own the PRO version.
 
Kaspersky is probably the best at not only detecting virus, but trojan's as well. Just cause u never heard of it, doesnt mean it isn't better. Go to some security forumd and look around. AVG is not very highly regarded among the top,it's claim to fame is it is FREE. That being said, I use NAV 2003 @ home because I didnt have to pay for it.
Use Panada Ebterprise @ work becasue that hs the best admin console for me and they update the sigs EVERYDAY of the week.
 
PC Cillin 2003 is also good and comes with a firewall as well,bottom line is there`re quite a few good AV programs out there.

Yup, the most important aspect of AV is actually using one and making sure it is up to date on a fanatical basis.

 
I was happy with McAffe until I figured out that it was MaAffe that was preventing me from reading pages served up by my Apache server. I have since changed over to F-Prot, and have been happy with it so far.
 
We use McAfee Enterprise at my work - 4 years, and only 2 virus outbreaks - both related to POP3 users going around our Firewalls.
 
To answer the original question instead of going into other programs available, I would recommend Norton. I have used Norton for a few years now. Installed Mcafee 2004 on a customers computer (running windows 2000) and it kept crashing the system. Eventually figured out that it was Roxio causing the crash for some wierd reason, but Roxio was fine until Mcafee was installed. Never had any problems like that with Norton on many different computers.
 
how about these stats ..

5 years 3 computers and ZERO ( 0 ) viruses ...

AV of choice = NONE. i don't use one.
 
I've had several McAfee installations go bad, never had a NAV installation go bad.

PCWorld did a review last year, in which they found that Panda found more viruses then NAV and McAffee, and one other (I forget). However, I've never used Panda.
 
I've used McAfee and NAV for a long time (on different systems), and either one of those does OK. However, now that NAV has added the stupid activation feature, I will not buy it again (starting with the 2004 version), and I'm sticking with McAfee.
 
McAfee has been nothing but trouble on all of the systems I've seen it on, while Norton A/V has always worked very well for me.
