Best antenna for TV reception?

I need to buy an antenna for my tv, keep in mind my TV is analog not digital.
I'm wondering what type of antenna would work best.

We had a fancy antenna on our big TV downstairs that was powered and had a bunch of dials and stuff, and it get horrible reception, no better than our rabbit ears.

Does the kind of antenna you buy really even matter? Roof antenna is out of the question, and dont have cable routed to my room either 🙁

I bought it on a clearance rack for $5. Best antenna I've ever had. I've used $100 Terks and the $50 Zienith "Silver Sensor" or whatever it's called...this little $5 one blows them out of the water for reception.

I use it for both analog and digital/HDTV reception.

hmm, i wonder how much one of those would run over at walmart

An antenna is an antenna is an antenna. The is no such thing as a digital antenna. Go get anything that gets UHF/VHF at Wal-Mart, and it'll get you analog and/or digital channels. All that matters is whether or not you have a digital receiver.

While very direction oriented, a lot of people like the Silver Sensor. Regardless, try to get an antenna with a built in powered amp. That can help with signals, sometimes, though you have to find the "sweet spot." Too low and it won't help, too high and it can actually cause interference, but get it just right and it'll get the job done.

ETA: vi_edit and I have the same antenna. I paid full price for mine, but it's very good since you have rabbit ears, a dish, and a wire loop that you can manipulate. The loop helped a lot in getting some channels, though it took awhile to get right.

Thanks for the tip and providing a link 🙂

I've done lots of antennas. I know nothing about your requirements.

In general I'd say go with a Yagi mounted in your attic, add an adjustable amplifier with an FM cutout. Then set drops into your rooms. Done correctly this is better than cable and free once you complete it.
