By tap water, do we mean city water? Because the tap water I got from my old house with a well was delicious ;)

but in terms of public water, I'd say the best is New York, NY. Worst is Florida (Juno Beach area)

The queens central library water fountain. So fresh & so cold. The water in jamacia new york isn't very good, but they reroute it from somewhere.

The worst for me would have to be in puerto rico. They don't have such a great system. Most of us buy bottled water while we're over there.

I love the water that comes out of our reverse osmosis system... you haven't drank great tasting water until you've had some that has come out of ros...

I wont even drink our regular tap water anymore.

Yep.
<---Another Oregonian

I grew up in Eugene and the water was great. Comes from the McKenzie river, which is a very cold, very clear river that originates from underground springs plus snowmelt from the cascade mountains about 60 miles East of Eugene.

I never understood why anyone would pay money to buy drinking water at a grocery store.
Then I moved to San Diego and found out.

EDIT: Worst drinking water ever (ok, it's not sent to the public's taps, but they do have drinking fountains where you can take a taste) is Lithia mineral water in Ashland, Oregon. It comes from springs under Mt Ashland and is loaded with all kinds of minerals. It is horrible. Tastes like sulphur and salt. But people use to travel to this area from hundreds of miles away just to drink the Lithia water. It was supposed to cure all kinds of diseases.

IMO, Chicago's water isn't bad at all. Mmm, Milwaukee's sewage...

This village called Riverie Que Bar (sp). Its about 45mins north of here...well water with plenty of cows nearby...

Used to play hockey there sometimes...everyone either brought their water from home or didn't drink any...you couldn't see through a waterbottle it was so brown. Smelled like cow sh!t too...really bad...

Second, Boston has the worst-tasting tap ever. I was at a local restaurant and asked for water. What i received was some metallic-tasting liquid. I thought it was a fluke, but by the time i had a chance to try water somewhere else, it tasted EXACTLY the same.

New York wasn't bad, but everything else isn't that bad either...

Best: Grenoble, France. They bragged about how good it was there, and that you didn't need to buy bottled mineral water.

Worst: Piece of cake, San Angelo, Texas. I could NOT drink the stuff without gagging, and it even made drink mixes and iced or hot tea taste bad. My dog wouldn't drink it or eat ice cubes made from it. Brita filtration AND Pur filtration did nothing to affect taste. Stuff was seriously nasty and actually damaged some of our pots, pans, and flatware after a year. Did I mention horrible? Makes me retch thinking about it. :disgust:
