I have a SLOT A motherboard, so I need to purchase a SLOT A thunderbird.

I know I can overclock it with a GFD device, but I will just try to change the bus speed first..

What is the best *CORE* to purchase that overclocks the best?

Im not a rich man, so I was looking at between 700 - 900 mhz (900 mhz can be had for $190)

Also which fan set up will keep the cpu coolest? (Im thinking a GlobalWin VOS)

Thanks
lex

Ps. also if you can reccomend good RELIABLE vendors (that are inexpensive)

Take care now... if u have a KX 133 based board then u can't get the Thunderbird over 800 no matter what... (and that's on a Abit KA7), if you're even lucky enough to get it working...

If u have a AMD 750 board then go for 800 or 850... u may also be able to get it to 1GHZ

Also make sure to get a Alpha cooler & up the voltage no more than 1.85 V...
Go for 50 Mhz increase @ one time with this voltage, util u can't go any further.. (rock stable)
then get that voltage down a bit...

My suggestion is not to get a socket A mobo yet, as DDR is right after the next corner...

Good Luck!

I have a slotA Tbird 900@1100 in an ASUS K7M with an Alpha P7125 using a home made GFD and 10 X 110Mhz fsb and 1.85v core. It'll post higher but it's a little flakey.

Some T-Birds wont run in a KX-133 VIA board. I have seen mixed posts, some say it will, some say it wont. I went with a classic instead, just to be sure.

O/C depends on all the "Other" components as well, not just the CPU.

YMMV

There is a mod you can do to KX133 mobos to allow them to use tbirds. All it is is soldering a few resistors to the bottom of the slot a connector. Somehow it alters the timings and tbirds work. Its up on the amdzone forums i think.

dkozloski: NICE!!!!!!!!
