What kind of question is this? Obviously the highest number is best. And you want the newer san deigo cause it runs cooler and has SSE3.

Only exception was the 3400 which beats up the 3500.

Sorry, don't know very much. I realize the higher the number the better, but I was also thinking about the price to performance ratio, which I'm sure many of you know alot about.

If you want Price performance without overclocking, just divide the price by the ghz...

as in:

300 / 2.4 = $125 per ghz

200 / 2.2 = $90 per ghz

etc...

That's why overclocking is such a good deal..

If you overclock a 2.2 to 2.6 you get = $77 per ghz :D

Oh yea! Now you're talking to me baby... Answer is 146 opteron 939. Make a 4000 for $165.

Reason is 10X multiplier and every board can run 240HTT and default voltage. And it's really nice for memory config. Simply set mem to 166 and it gives you 200Mhz memory, like stock, like any memory can handle.

Honestly I don't consider this overclocking... but instead freeing up the chip AMD decided to cripple it as.

I've always said if it's working, it ain't ' overclocked ' ....

I like your ' freeing up ' explanation...

I see what you mean.. It kills me when a new chip come out and someone hits a high clock, then everyone rushes out to buy one.

You know if AMD was getting a consistant yield on a particular fab, they would be putting em' in boxes and selling em' at that speed..

Remember the Venice 3200+ that went to 2.8 on default ? Did you ever see a 2nd one ?

Oh wait ! They're called FX57's now ... :D

Opterons depend on the stepping. The good revision will get past 4000+ speeds, especially with water or top of the line air cooling but not the other revisions...

Tigerdirect.ca and Tigerdirect.com have the socket 754 3700+ for sale in a motherboard combo.
newegg also has combo deals with the 3700+ with a hard drive or USB memory thingy.
