Best AMD CPU for overclocking

Right now I have an 1800+ Palamino and I have run smack into a wall when overclocking. I am not the only one with the problem I am seeing so I am guessing it is something with some palaminos and anything past 146Mhz. Anyhow, I am looking to get a new chip. I want something that I can get the best bang for my buck when overclocking. I am using an Alpha 8045 w/ Artic silver for cooling and I am happy with it. I was thinking of getting either the 2500+ Barton or the 2100+ Tbred(revb). I was thinking the Tbred is the best way to go cuz I can change the multiplier without modding (I have had no luck doing this on my palamino when using highspeedpcs kit). I would more strongly consider the barton if I could change the multiplier without a phyiscal mod. Any comments?
thanks,
-doug

Ok, I could spend $60 at SVC and be pretty sure of getting a good 1700+. I could spend $41 at newegg for a 1700+ i was less sure of. Or I could spend $74 at newegg for a 2100+ that is at least definatly a revB. What should I do?
thanks,
-doug

PS. Is it really worth upgrading from an 1800+ @ 1680Mhz to a 2100+ that could possibly do 2200Mhz?

I don't think it'd be worth it...unless you are playing games that are choppy that extra mhz won't have any REAL noticable speed increase.

Though i say the 2500+ instead of the 2100+

word is that you can OC and mod a 2500+ into an MP 3200+

huge jump there . . . just an idea to consider. you canna go dual proc, that is the cheap way.

When you say mod, do you mean I can unlock it, or is there something else?

2100 has overclocked well for me and my friends. The 2500 is nice too, but I have read and heard about problems with heating.

here's the deal coming from the o/c forums :)

the 1700+ is by far the best bang for the buck at the moment in terms of overclocking / cost ratio...

you can find a very nice 0310X or W 1700+ from excaliberpc.com or you can get a 0319U from SVC.com whichever...

either way, you'll be able to get around 2.2 to 2.4 ghz with 1.6 to 1.8 volts

the 2100+ isn't worth it anymore considering that the 1700+ is killing the 2100+ at o/cing

now if you want to spend a little more cash, you can get the barton 2500+ for about 92 to 93 shipped at newegg

people have been having pretty good luck with these processors these days and are getting between 2.2 ghz to 2.4 ghz on air

with the extra cache (512 instead of 256 on the L2) it makes it faster...

hope that helps! :)

If i get an 0310X will i still need to unlock it? I have an nForce2 motherboard and I have heard that tbred B's dont need to be physically unlocked. What kind of performance jump can I expect from 1680Mhz to 2200Mhz? Worth $65? Im mainly thinking ahead to HL2 but if these are a really good buy and there is a limited # I dont mind getting it now. Or if I am looking ahead am I better off w/ the barton for an extra $30? On the topic of the barton, do they need to be physically unlocked or are they like tbred bs?
thanks,

my Nf7-s unlocked my 0310WMPW 1700+. IMO, the extra $30 isn't worth it for the barton cuz there is a VERY LITTLE performance incraese that comes with the extra cache

true... unless you can get a barton to 2.4 ghz :) then that extra cache is WELL worth it

i'll post benchies of my 2500+ vs my 1700+ @ 2.5 ghz sometime next week
