I definitely want to move to better GPUs, but from my point of view, even though the 1080 offers over twice the SP performance of a 280x/7970, it's over 5x the cost. Getting a fleet of obsolete GPUs together is my way of trying to run with you big dogs on the lowest $ possible. I WILL be upgrading incrementally over the course of the year, there's the 12th Annual Folding@Home Holiday race to consider, for which I plan to have several 1070s or better ready to go...
