Im looking for a stand alone scanner to scan photos , negatives and some text. I have an HP AIO unit that I dont care fopr, especially now that Ive got the canon pixma 4000 and my HPLJ4000 for everything else. So Im now looking for a stand alone scanner. All help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Your most daunting listed task will be scanning negatives--especially if they are 35mm size. You are at a wierd pricepoint here also. The April/-5 issue of consumer reports lists two $100 scanners as best buys---the Canon 4200f and the Epson 2480.-----go to $180 or more and you get some more better choices.

I would recommend you check our steves digicams forums for some photo centric advice.

Ok im looking on the epson site and I also see the 2580 there thats on clearance for 119. is there a big difference ebtween the 2480 and 2580????

No real spec difference--both are 48 bit and 2400dpi.--likely its just no longer the current model.

But check the dmax values.--look for 3.2 or more

Also check on line vendors--some real bargains can be found.

But hopefully some real experts who do use scanners for film scanning will weigh in.

I've owned ansd have sold plenty of the Epson Perfection 3490 PHOTO which is @ the same place for $100...shpild be good enough for your needs as well...

From Epsons store...they are refurbished but come with the full warranty...out of the 2 I got ...couldn't tell the difference between them and mine when I got it new.
