I set up a lot of networks and the buffalo WHR-HP-G54 has been a staple for me, but now it appears that the supply is drying up. It's no longer on newegg or any big dealers that I can find.

Anything I can get that is "high power," with a detachable external antenna and DD-WRT support at any price, really. Don't need a gigabit switch or 802.11n. I just want high power/performance/reliability with DD-WRT and external antennas. I looked at the WHR-HP-300N or whatever it is, and there were a lot of bad reviews about periodic wireless outages, so I'm a little apprehensive about that one.

What are your staple routers? thanks

WZR-HP-300gn ;) i use it as an AP (auto) with 1.77 and stays locked @ 270 all day long but can push so much power everyone in the house can use it as well.

you can find antennas on ebay for $11 that will go from stock 2dbi to 25dbi directional :) couple (maybe 3?) and you have one bad mama for less than $100 total project spend.

I really, really want DD-WRT and detachable antennas. I feel like I've looked everywhere too. Why discontinue the WHR-HP-G54 when there is nothing to take its place?

There are problems with DD-WRT handling the High Power (HP) of the New Buffalo Wireless Routers.

It will work OK like it works with any other Router, but it might be that there will be No benefit from the HP.

On the other hand other Routers are Not HP to begin with.

So I get a Buffalo, and since I am an adult been Coll is Not a concern t to me, I do not flash it with DD-WRT unless I really need it.
