Best All Around 19" LCD Panel?

I come from the old Q2/Q3 2005 days when the popular models were the Samsung 930B, Hyundai L90, Viewsonic VX924 or whatever.

However, it disturbed me that the first 2 panels were TN panels which suck for colors and while they are fast as well, games look like sh!t. I had so many issues getting killed in Counter-strike in the dark areas that I had to boost Gamma and brightness to compensate. The result? Inaccurrate colors in games. What's the point of having a panel that you need to mess up in order to see properly in a game. Moreover, I remember using the 930B, it was far too bright of a panel and the colors were just oversaturated.

After checking out my friend's VX924, the image quality was decent, but not that great either.

I settled on a Viewsonic VP191b. It was an enormous price, but I have to say I was satisfied. I was even more satisfied when my mom's Dell 2405FPW arrived and even after calibrating, my VP191b looked a lot nicer.

Of course my Viewsonic VP191b was succeeded by the higher contrast VP930b, but both are 6-bit panels still >.<. I guess it does amaze me that some 6-bit panels do quite a good job in colors while others really suck (TN panels).

So, I'm wondering what is a good panel today. I prefer to avoid TN still because they're not that great. I may game, but my primary concern is with image quality. Somehow, I feel Dells are overhyped and the 2007/2407 still don't look THAT great. I would still take the Viewsonic VP930b over those monitors, but I dunno. 6-bit doesn't sound to appealing either. So which panel takes the cake today?

I have a Viewsonic VG1930wm that is really nice and the colors are perfect with a fast response time. I doubt it's the best out there, but I like it and the price is in a reasonable range.

I haven't really shopped around since I bought my Samsung 910T a few years ago. I am still very happy with this monitor. It has 8-bit color and high contrast. It is a slower panel, but I have it connected through DVI and have never noticed any ghosting. DVDs look great and my kids and I play games (mostly my kids) with no complaints.

I recently bought my father a Samsung 215T (21" wide screen) to replace his 17" NEC. I would have to say it looked great while setting it up. I believe it is an 8-bit panel as well.

Sorry that I do not have any suggestions for a current 19" model, but based on my experience with Samsung, I would still consider this brand when evaluating new models.

Good luck!

The samsung 971p is a 6 bit P-MVA panel with excellent colour reproduction. It goes ~$350 I think? Sounds like that's what you're looking for.
If you have a very high budget, the only lcd to get is the NEC 20wmgx2. Best gaming, best colours, best everything. It's an 8 bit S-IPS panel with opticlear coating (the high gloss finish) and goes for $580 I think. It is worth it though.
You're probably right about the dell panels being overhyped. The chance you get an S-IPS panel now with the 20" is like 1:3 and the BenQ 24" is better than the dell 24".
What is your budget?
