Best air purifier???

Im in the market for an air purifier for my room. Anyone have a recommendation of a good air purifier?

The Sharper Image Ionic Breeze Quadra and GP look good, but I've read mixed reviews about them. I also remember a Conusmer Report article stating that they sucked. According to Epinions, a lot of people are happy with the product.

I was also interested in the Oreck Super Air 8 Air Purifier. Spoke with the salesman at Oreck and like all salesman, they can be pretty convincing.

The Sharper Image Ionic Breeze Quadra emit ozone which is corrosive to it's surroundings including humans.

Just go with an air purifier with hepa filter that you can get at Costco. The ionic breeze crap that sharper image sells is 1000% overpriced and doesn't work as well, nor is it safe.

They want like $350 for an air purifier. Yea right.

I recently bought one myself by a suggestion to help out my allergies from my doctor; his number one recommendation is the whirlpool whispure 450.

I found one on eBay at the time and bout it for $99.

Retail is much more however at $269 on their site.

How about their GP model? I'm thinking about getting an air purifier too.

consumer reports rates ionic breeze dead last. don't bother with the ozone spewing pos. you can pay to see online, or go to library😛

Im not quite sure the size of the rooms. But I was looking for one in my "regular" sized bedroom (maybe 16x16 or a bit larger) and one for my living room.

Does anyone know about the Oreck air purifier? They don't use a HEPA filter claiming that the HEPA filters " tend to hold moisture in, which actually breeds mold and releases it back into the room. HEPA filters act on the principle of a simple window screen and often pass through accumulated dirty particles which can be forced back out into the room. HEPA filters quickly clog and become ineffective. So they need to be replaced regularly and are costly. By contrast, the filtration efficiency of the Oreck Super Air 8 Professional Air Purifier is up to 95%. It traps particles as minute as 0.1 microns or one thousand times smaller than a single human hair. It will also capture mold, pet hair and dander, dust mites, common household dust and allergens. Once caught in the filter, bacteria cannot survive."

The main specs are how large of a room its for and how long the filter lasts for.

Filters are very expensive, and will by far outspend on filters than the unit itself.

i bought a honeywell, not sure of the model number, hepa filter, big white thing, works ok i guess, cant really tell?

Don't hospitals use purifires with HEPA filters? If it's good enough for a hospital, I'm pretty sure it's good enough for your bedroom.
