Best air cool for 7900GT

Hi all,

got this card,
Asus 7900GT top
stock: 520/1440

I am planning to overclock, i want to get the best GPU air cool for now.
I was thinking about Zalman VF900, is it good enough?
I was also think about VF700 LED version, if it has no major difference, i will go with this one as I like the blue LED on this GPU cooler..

Or can anyone suggest me with a better GPU cooler?
my budget to this is no greater $40.00 (this credit for best cooler... enough?)

Thanks

How do you guys remove the heat sinks from the memory chips if you need to some day? Can it be done without damaging the memory?

I always think that is the major disadvantage of ZALMAN compared the Silencer series. But, I would like to know if there is a fool proof way of doing it. Then, I may get a ZALMAN too.

they mini heatsinks for the memory just use thermal tape so they pop right off. then a bit of alcohol or paint thinner or acetone will clean off what little residue they leave behind. after a few years of operation they can become kinda hard but still, freeze the little buggers and the tape will get really brittle and basically fall off.

just want to share this,

I got this hsf finally...

The temperature drop from 48C idle 38C...
i haven't overclock it or do any heavy bench marking yet.

but will do some in tomorrow after work.

But for now, it can lower the temperature for 10C, which is quite impressive.

nice! are you planning to do the volt mod to your card? I have my Asus TOP 7900GT running 700/1650 with the 1.55v mod. I can run it higher and bench, but Ikeep it there for every day use. I'm using a maze 4 gpu block on mine, keep it at 37 or so

is ur a water cool?

wow, 700/1650 !!!??
that's the best clocking i ever seen, seriously..!!!

i think i will do that later.. may be when Crysis is out.
I think my card will need a little more clock rate by then..

yeah, water cooled... thus the maze 4 gpu block. I haven't done the memory vmod to get over 1700 on the RAM, but I can benchmark at about 715/1695. I have yet to see what my 3dmark06 score is with my gpu at these clocks and my 165 at 3Ghz

the accelero x2 is gr8 for ATI cards so the accelero x1 might be gr8 for nvidia cards. (they are pretty much the same)

the accelero coolers were made for quietness not performance. They exhaust the hot air directly onto the mobo. Overall, they are not very good (performance wise) The silencers are much better!

the best gfx card air cooler you can buy is the zalman vf900.
