I'd say that you should try to stretch your budget to accomodate a 6800GT. It's a terrific card and performs much better than the 6600GT in all games. Search the FS/FT forums.
If you really want to get a cheap card, a 6600GT will play Doom3 well. It will just cough and wheeze in some other games at high settings (eg Far Cry). A 6800GT is still a great card by today's standards.
Thank you! Basically I don't play game now, but I would like to have a card that's capable for today's new games. Maybe I'll pick up some games in the next couple of months. I still miss the days whe I was having fun on Q3A. Used to be a decent player.
For work purpose, I'd need a card that does extremely well for 2-D, for some CAD work. Dunno which card is good for that perspective.
