Thanks for the replies. One thing I noticed was I got better performance on my main media rig (AMD 4600 X2 w/ HD3850) using the CCCP codec package over the VLC player. Tried to play BBC Earth in 1080p and my system would just choke using the VLC player but once I changed to CCCP and used the Classic Media player it played fine.
As for my AGP solution, I'm still looking into it. I like the HD3850 I have and would love to get an AGP version but not for the current price of about $150-200. I might as well spend $50 to replace my MOBO with a PCI-e version and use a 7600GT I have lying around collecting dust. I saw a HD2600pro at Micro Center for $130 but couldn't get myself to get that either. Ideally I would like something that works well for 1080p for under $80.

One last question,
It looks like I'm going to get a 6600GT for free. How well will that decode video? Would it be worth upgrading to something else?

I'm using a 6800 agp in my HTPC (3800X2) and it outputs to a Westinghouse LVM47 over DVI at 1080p just fine. But all I'm watching is OTA HDTV and recorded HDTV- no blu ray. I think you will be OK with the 6600 or the 9800pro if you choose your player and codecs carefully. I had to experiment with mine but I ended up using MPC. I think it has the lowest overhead of most players. The only one my system really chokes on though is WMP 11. I think that the codecs that WMP 11 uses are not the best...
Oh Yeah... if all you are doing is watching video and not gaming at all, you can get a 2400pro and it will do all the HD hardware accelerated stuff. Very cheap- about 35.00 at Newegg.
