Building a new rig with A64 3000+ Winchester/MSI K8N Pro Platinum and a gig of memory, but video cards are gibberish to me

I don't want to be able to play Doom 3 or HL-2....just Worlds of Warcraft, Star Wars Galaxies and maybe ocassional FPS such as Call of Duty.

DVI is a big plus.

Any help would be very appreciated.

Just trade your machine with my gibberish DELL 400SC.
You don't need that game power machine.

can anyone spell W.A.S.T.E?
you really should get a 6800gt(~$400) or taht much speed is worthless. you would get the same performance with a 2200+xp and 512mb ram if you dropped a ti4200 into it.

Well I figured that out from the first post, I guess a lot of people here assumed the only use for a fast computer was gaming :p

you could also get a non-pro Radeon 9600 128mb for $66, but if you save a little more, you could get an XT or a Pro with 256MB of ram.

I would think you'd get better performance on the stuff you're playing using one of the GF4 Tis. They're just great cards. I have a 64mb Gainward Ti4200 that I got for $40 on eBay that does a hella job when I need it to, even though I have enthusiast cards.

I have a fast CPU MOSTLY for distributed computing (SETI)

if my old 2500+ ran games at insane FPS and cracked at the same speed my A64 does, I'd still be using it.

I'll always upgrade my CPU in the name of a lower WU time, (Hope all you TeAm members see this!! :D)

Some people always assume "Good system is ONLY for game." Isn't it nice to see? :p

Anyway, I am sure you may want to consider 9550 (with 128bit) as well. For example, THIS ABIT 9550 128MB DVI. With 128-bit memory interface and OC potential of 9550 (Easily OC to 9600 Pro speed, or even 9600 XT sometimes), it won't be bad choice at all.

And also, if I were you, I would never consider 9250. I can get 9000 Pro (Lower number, but better performance. Thanks to ATI's stupid numbering) for like 50 bucks. (I sold mine about two weeks ago on egay for 40 bucks)

FX5600s and 6600s do great in wow (6600 regular, not GT)

I assume any 128bit card would do fine, just watch out for the 64 bit steamers.

I play WoW and use a ti4200 and its fine. I'm upgrading my PC but keeping this card because its fine for the game. So I would second this recommendation.
