I'm gonna do a basketball theme cake for the Blue and Gold Cub Scout banquet and I need to know some of the best ACC Basketball players of all time, their team, jersey number.

I currently have:

Tim Duncan, Wake Forest
Michael Jordan - UNC
Antawn Jamison - UNC
Vince Carter - UNC
Grant Hill - Duke
Stephon Marbury - G. Tech

Randolph Childress schooled Grant Hill everytime they played.

He's one of my picks for greatest *college* player of all time. Too bad he was too slow for the pros.

Edit: 1 year does not make Stephan Marbury great!

How about adding Len Bias, Ralph Sampson, or Laettner (I hate saying it) to the list?

Besides, those are the great modern players. There were a ton of excellent players from the 70s and 60s like David Thompson and Lenny Chapel.

Another Edit: And Vince Carter was by no means great in college at all. Ol' Dean usually made him ride the bench.

Don't get me wrong, he's a GREAT pro, just not that much realised in college.

Christian Laettner was the best I ever seen. He was truly an outstanding college player. And was the man on those Duke teams that won championships.

Some other great college players

Rodney Rogers: Wake Forest
Kenny Anderson and Dennis Scott: Georgia Tech
James Worthy: UNC

Dick Groat, Duke, jersey #10. Two-sport All-american, still holds the single season scoring record for Duke, played in the NBA and for the Pittsburgh Pirates, winning the National League MVP award one year.

He's from my tiny hometown of Swissvale, PA.

Forgot to mention Dick Groat was NCAA Player of the year in 1952. A picture of him (in a Duke uniform) is here.

Rodney Rogers (#54)
Tim Duncan (#21)
Randolph Childress (#22) Any list of the greatest ACC players MUST include him. He does have the highest tourney point total after all.

Let's not forget that Clemson powerhouse of the mid to late seventies, the dreaded "Tree" Rollins.

Childress played for Wake.

Tree Rollins also makes my list. I don't know much about teams other than Wake's jersey numbers.

We can talk Wake. Thats my favorite team along with State. I grew up loving State, but now I love Wake. I guess because I'm going to go to there lawschool in 2003. However, I still pull for State.

I have an actual autographed basketball (David Thompson). Dated too.

I also have an autographed basketball with Michael Jordan's sig from when he played at Carolina. My cousin gave it to me for Christmas (He saw him at the Carolina/State game). Real nice guy.

Both are boxed up, so nothing happens to them.

Anytime you want, Fettsbabe. I graduated in 98. State has to be my 2nd favorite in the ACC.

I cheer for the Russians before UNC though. :)

Hank Gathers, Layola Merrimount(When I saw him die on the court it made me cry, just thinking about that look in his eyes, sitting there, when he knew he was gonna die still does)Not ACC but my pick for best.
Bobby Jones, UNC
Walter Davis, UNC
Phil Ford, UNC
Al Wood, UNC
Mitch Kupchak, UNC
Len Bias, Maryland
David Thompson, NCSU
Charlie Ward, FSU

I just saw during the Carolina game that NCSU just had its FIRST EVER player to have a triple double, man or woman!
It just so happens that it was a woman, and if a State bball record meant more to me than the sweat off my **** then I'd tell you her name, but it doesn't so I don't remember.
Although, I'd like to congratulate her for this accomplishment for it is a feat no matter the gender of the athlete.
I just thought it weird knowing the players to have gone through NCSU.
