Best A64 System for $900?

Hi!
I'm new to these forums, and I'm currently building my new computer. I already have a monitor, surround sound speakers, and a case with all lighting/fans. I've been somewhat out of the loop for a while, but I think I'd like to base my system around the NForce3 chipset, as I'd like to make sure all the bugs are out before investing in NForce4. I'll be using my computer for compiling code, LAN gaming, and light graphics design.
Any suggestions in hardware would be much appriciated!

Asus K8N-E (edit: actually K8N-E Deluxe, sorry) is a nice, pretty well-tested nForce3 motherboard (actually nForce3 250Gb). This is for Socket 754. Or if you want a Socket 939 Athlon64, try the MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum motherboard (nForce3 Ultra).

As for the CPU, from what I've heard, the Athlon64 3200+ is the best bang for your buck.

Hope that helps.

just the system or do u need monitor to?

overclocking or not overclocking?

DFI Lan Prty is a nice Socket 754 MB.

Athlon 3200+ or a 3400+ 512k (2.4Ghz) is a great deal.

I will be going for Socket 939, and also plan on overclocking a good deal.
Like I said, any suggestions are great!

As flamingspinach stated, the MSI K8N NEO2 is known as the best motherboard for overclocking. It's also a very feature-rich board even if you're not going to overclock.

athlon 2800+ or 3000+ for socket 939(90 NM) should overclock great. I would choose the ASUS board over the MSI one. You want some good ram to overclock so don't skimp there. OCZ, Mushkin, Crucial, Corsair are all good stuff.
Also you want a good solid power supply something in the 400watt range should be plenty of power. My current system underload pulls about 3 amps which is 330 watts total.

As Adul said, a good PSU is paramount as well - one I've heard good things about is the CoolMAX CX-400B, it's apparently a surprise hit, excellent quality and very quiet. 🙂

Interesting. I haven't heard of CoolMAX as being a reputable company...Google doesn't bring up any reviews on it.

Like I said, it seems to be a surprise hit. I'd never heard of them before either, but it is NewEgg's 4th ranked PSU of any wattage, by customer feedback...

This should be the base of system for ultimate price/performance:
A64 retail 3000+ EPOX 9NDAJ = $249@mwave
Mushin Value Ram 2x512 = $134 @newegg

Case and antec with 350+w PSU's are decent... segate HD's are quiet, size?

DVD burner everyone seems to dig NEC3500 for $65.
