Hi,

I'm putting together a new AMD 64 socket 939 system and want to overclock a bit. I've already bought a Lian-li case and 1024mb (512 mb x2) of Corsair Value select pc 3200 RAM. What is a good motherboard for overclocking and what speed processor should I get to get the best bang for my buck?

Thanks,
Eric

nope, any mobo you find won't do you any good because you bought sh*t ram that won't allow you to overclock

try getting better ram, if not, just get some cheap mobo because you can't OC anyways

hmm...I had heard that that RAM was good for overclocking...anyway, thats not a problem, I haven't opened it yet, so I can return it. What type of RAM would you recommend?

Uhm, on an A64 you can overclock with cheap RAM. RAM doesn't affect the OC or performance much at all--link.

AGP: Epox EP-9NDA3J/9NDA3+; MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum
PCIe: DFI NF4 boards, though MSI is still viable too in the event that the DFI hates your RAM

DFI Ultra-D is the best non sli board, and it doesn't like your ram. :p

CPU I'd go for a ADA3200BIBOX. I'd return the RAM and get some of the G.skill, patriot, or TwinMOS

The DFI Ultra-D and the TwinMOS, and a 3200+ That would overclock like crazy.

eh sry i was just releasing my anger because my dfi board spit out my 4 value ram (returned and bought new ones twice) and screwed up 2 hard drives (luckily one new so i returned it, the other had my info on it, good thing is that most of the valuable stuff was already backed up) and corrupted my OS

Excellent advice. I use the Ultra-D and it can do 300+ HTT without breaking a sweat. However I use 2x512MB DDR400 Micron G modules that cost less than $100, and I am able to run my 3200+ @ 2.6GHz (217 mem, 260HTT). I know some people really push the 'expensive' memory and IMHO it's not worth the premium.

I apologize for quoting your entire post. I wasn't referring to your memory recommendation. :( :)

Pretty much any DFI Nforce 4 based boards would be your best bet, altho they are not that fond of some Corsair VS.
