Best 939 Heatsink/Fan?

Right now I have an XP-120 on my 144. But I'm upgrading to an X2 3800+ and my temps with the 144 haven't been stellar, high 30's usually. Using AS5.

I want something relatively quiet, but I want to be able to O/C this X2.

Any suggestions?

Hih 30;s is great, what the problem ? That Xp 120 is one of the best.

I have 5 X2's, will be 7 on Thurs. Average OC=2500. Average temp on XP90's (full load both cores) 50c.

I have an OC'd 3500+ on a Freezer 64 Pro with MX-1 and I get 41-42C at load, so your high-30s temps are very good. There is no need to upgrade simply for dropping a few degrees...

high 30's is my idle temp, sorry. still ok?

load i think is like mid 40s, i'm at work and can't remember.

what temp ranges are ok for single core venice, opty and x2's ?
the 3200 venice @ 2.5 in my htpc is at about 39 idle, ok?

Mid 40s load on a stock speed Opty seems a bit high; maybe you should reapply thermal paste on it and try again. But anyway I know a few friends who have their 939 A64 3200+ CPUs at 2.5GHz with additional voltage, and their load temps approach 50C. Yet they have no stability issues.

I've got a XP-90 on my 3800+, been running high 40s/low 50s idle, and into the 60s during load since I got it around 6 months ago, never had a problem, you'll be fine.

I have the XP-90 w/ Vantec 92mm Stealth and my X2 3800+ @ 2.7 idles around 38 w/ full load temps are 50C. This is with the house temp @ 78F (26C).

The XP-90 (original) is one of the best. 🙂

That's a little ridiculous. I'm using AMD stock cooling and my 3700+ loads at 43C

Five things to ponder...

[*]All socket thermistors read differently
[*]The temp in your house is probably different
[*]I am using a low speed quiet fan
[*]I doubt you have a 700MHz overclock
[*]You probably use default cpu core voltage

😛

[EDIT] So would you recommend an XP-90 over the Ultra-90? They're the same price.

maybe it is the fan that needs to be looked at for me.

what is a good noise/performance fan for the xp-120? Using a San Ace or whatever came with it (bought it used)

stock 3200+ i have max temp ever seen 44... that was in summer running some crazy pi program i programmed in class 😉

by all accounts the xp-120 is one of the very best heatsinks available for s939 boards. low-mid thirties is fine for idle on an A64 (or opty), particularly in the summer if you don't have an air conditioner in with your PC. I wouldn't worry too much about it.
if you start reaching the high 50s under load, with that heatsink, then maybe you should be concerned, but where you are now is fine.
