I will be buying from www.overclockers.co.uk

I was looking at the following :

G.Skill 4GB DDR2 PQ PC2-6400C5 (2x2GB) x 2

or

OCZ 8GB (4x2GB) PC2-6400C5 800MHz Quad Channel Platinum Low Latency XTC Series DDR2 (OCZ2P8008GQ

Anything I should look out for ?

You don't have manually adjustable tRFC [on that mobo].

So just be warned, you won't be able to get that RAM much past DDR2-800, unless SPD for those kits is set with a high tRFC [& you use AUTO for timings].

I know tRFC is not high on the G.Skill one; they foolishly have it @ 43 IIRC.

Not sure on the OCZ.

Obviously with a Q6600 you don't need high RAM speeds anyway, so not to worry really.

n7:

Thanks for moderating mavericks like us.

What are the FSB and DRAM settings on your rig e.g. as reported by CPU-Z?

Asus P5Q Deluxe | Q6700 @ 3536 MHz
4x2 GB Mushkin 996580 @ DDR2-1061 5-5-5-15

The P5Q Deluxe is the motherboard I would choose for my next workstation:
doesn't that P45 chipset now support 16GB total RAM?

I'm delighted to see so many systems going to an x64 OS:
this should have happened sooner after 64-bit CPUs
first became available.

I ran 8 GB with my P5B Deluxe, but i will agree it's not really an ideal mobo for 8 GB.

Look at the P5Q series...there's the cheaper P5Q all the way up to the overkill Premium.

Depending on what features you need, the P5Q or P5Q Pro tend to cover mainstream use pretty well.
