Best 80mm cooling fan??

Hi guys. I need to know what the "best" 80mm cooling fan is. I have a FOP38 and am replacing that stupid hurricane Delta on there, the noise is a bit too much for me to handle. Anyway, I've tried a couple of different 80mm fans but so far none of them seem as powerful as the 60mm Delta 37cfm, even though the fans are rated for higher cfm's. For example, I have an 80mm Dynaeon fan supposedly rated at 40-45cfm that just seems pathetic by comparison. Doing temp comparisons, the Delta is on average 3 degrees C better.

So, of course, I am lookinf for the best 80mm case fan that's around 36dba, obviously with as high a CFM as possible. I would like to pick up a Panaflo U1A (51cfm, 38dba) but I can't find anybody that has it. Other then that, so far my only other option appears to be a Sunon fan that some sites have listed as 42cfm... but after getting the Dynaeon, naturally I'm a little skeptical of how it will perform.

Thanks in advance!

Sunon fans are top quality. I've used them in all my cases. If you buy one, make sure you get the High Output fan. They make a few different of each size.

This store has the different ones.

Sunon's are really nice... decent output/sound level, the high output 80's are kinda loud but they do put out a lot of cfm...

Thanks guys. Are those Sunon's "really" that high an output, though? I mean, the Dynaeon one I have is "rated" 40-45cfm but there's no way, I mean, it's a pretty weak fan, just putting my hand in front of the air flow there's a huge difference between that and the Delta. I don't really want to get stuck again if the Sunon's aren't any different.

I've encountered about 6 different types of fans, and the best I've used are Nidec and Sunon. The only Nidec I had was already in a case that I bought. Sunon has, I think, 3 per size; thin, regular, and high output. (not exact names) Just check out the link above for 2cooltek, and you'll see the difference. Are there better fans out there, maybe, but these are solid. I got 7 of them in my big tower, just put my hand in front of one of them, feels good.

If you put your hand in front of a fan that's mounted in the front of your case, it can be crippled by an air filter. Some air filters, can reduce air intake for the fans.

Anyway, I like mine. Hope they work out for you.

To get higher airflow you would need to duct the airflow of the 80mm through to the size of the 60mm otherwise it's like me blowing directly at your face as opposed to through a straw..

An 80mm fan might feel like it is moving less CFM than the 60mm fan. Remember that the CFM of an 80 mm fan is spread out across (take a wild guess here) 80mm. That would give it lower pressure than a comparable 60mm fan.

Also, with a 60mm->80mm duct, make sure that any cracks and crevices are sealed. Otherwise you will lose some of the CFM due to leaks.

Finally, I have used both Adda and Papst 80mm quiet fans. After one gets above about 33 CFM, diminishing returns sets in. To see what I mean, look at the following article.

I have been using the Mechatronics 80mm Fans for years. They flow 53 cfm, and are a little easier to get then the Delta's.Mechatronics Home page Give them a call and they will glady let you know a dealer in your area. Yes, you need to put you own plugs on them. No I don't work for them, just a happy customer.

Yeah, I was thinking about that re the air pressure.

So, is more air pressure better, then?

Thanks for the link on mechatronics. I will look into that... a 53cfm ducted 80mm might be nice! I am having sooooooooo many heat issues right now it's not even funny. i can't even get my athlon 1.1 to be stable at 1.1, let alone any overclock. My temp gets up to 52-54c on an a7v133 (all closed case), I know it's kind of high. The CPU itself posts 1350-1400 easy, but won't boot... seems like such a waste.

You shouldn't be having such heat issues. Do you you have your case set up properly for good airflow? Blowing in the front and out the Power Supply and additional rear fan?

I have 4 fans in my case

1 120mm blowing air in the front
1 120mm blowing air out the back
power supply blowing out back
Card Cooler beneath my vid card

1 Alpha w/ 2 fans

my system is as cool as can be

My other case has a lot of vents on the back and sides. The ones on the back aren't conducive to the proper air flow, so I cover them up.

In a non-overclocked setup, you shouldn't be having heat problems.

Yeah, I have the front fan blowing in and the power supply fan blowing out, as well as a second fan under the power supply blowing out (i tried turning it inwards, too, it was about the same (actually 1 C cooler). I also have a card cooler device over my video card. My case temp gets as high as 30-32C, ambient temperature in the room is about 21. Contrasting to that machine (A7V133, as I mentioned) I have a Duron 650 running @ 1000 mhz on an Epox 8kta3 w/ (believe it or not) a Super Orb and arctic silver, no extra fans in that case whatsoever (not even one in the front, just the power supply fan). That case temp gets to about 25C, with the CPU about 45C. They are not right next to each other so it's hard to compare exactly, but technically, the Duron system should get hotter since it's in front of my baseboard heater.

I don't know what the deal with my main machine is... although it is pretty annoying. I keep getting RunDLL32 errors and DIBENG.DLL GPF's. I also tried taking the cover off and seeing what the temps get to - about 26C case and 47-48 on the CPU, more acceptable, but i still run into the above two errors sometimes. It's driving me nuts, and I clean installed it and everything.

The only things I can think of are:

1. Voltage turned up to high
2. Poor contact area between cpu and heatsink
3. Don't think possible nowadays, but you've got a remarked cpu
4. There are small creatures cooking marshmellows on an open fire in your case.

hehe.. that's funny dude :)

Well, I'll keep trying, and if I figure it out I'll post back here. Thanks for everything!
