Best $80 i have spent in a long time...

Canon Pixmar iP3000. damn, what a nice printer for $80. i needed to get more ink for my epson 780 and that was $50, so i figured what the hell, i will just get a new printer since that 780 is pretty old. i was amazed that this canon prints just as good if not better photos than the 780 and offers auto duplex, i still can't believe this thing was only $80.... 🙂

Auto duplexing? As in double-sided printing?

I absolutely love that Canon has rejected--to a greater extent than others--the price gouging game on replacement ink, too.

Nice! 🙂

yep, it makes it a little slow but you save a couple of trees, a buddy of mine has one of the better hp lasers with it, something like a 1200d or so, and the autoduplexing slowed it down too, so i wasn't to surprised. i was shocked as hell to find this feature on a printer at this price point, and it actually works well. i have found the real canon ink at sams club for ~$12 for black (a little larger cartridge) and ~$9 for color (3, c,m,y). i also have a laser hooked up to my server that is shared, but i feel this one will be getting some use now that the ink is reasonable, just need to see what type of quantity i get in black only. 🙂

Agreed...got mine for $81. Absolutely amazing, if a bit noisy. Terrific deal. Got it at Newegg.

newegg now has them for $59+$10 shipping. it lists them as not being able to print double sided, but unless newegg got some "newegg specials" without that feature (which i doubt) they are wrong.

if i didn't need it yesterday, i would have gotten it for $70... 😉 🙂

i think the best thing about this printer is that after you're done with it, the printer neatly folds up into a closed bread box, keeping dust and other stuff away from the inside. Also, all the parts (feed tray, eject tray) folds out of the printer rather than needing to be attached separately- really keeping things tidy and easier to manage.

<~ loves my PIXMA IP3000 =)

*80 with free shipping at Amazon

after playing with it for a couple of days, man, this think kicks a$$. i d/l some sample photos off of different websites like canon, fuji, etc and had it print them in the best quality borderless on 8.5 x 11 glossy photo paper. needless to say, i could not tell them apart from a "real" 8x10, excellent results, and it get quite a bit of pages per ink cartridge. i have already printed out about 300 pages black text and either the little gauge telling you how much ink is left is broken, or it is really efficient. guess i will find out. more than overjoyed with this printer 🙂

i think it was the ip3000, I could double check if you would like, although its at my brother house. I would of got one but i've already got a i950.

not if you use Canon's own ink and clean the ink head frequently. I had a canon multipass f30 last me three years on generic ink before the head clogged up. Supposedly the more recent inkheads are morereliable.

I got an ip3000 from Officemax last week for $20. $100-$10 coupon-$20 git card-$50 rebate. It's okay as far as picture quality goes. I don't think I'd print any important 8x10's on it, even my Wal Mart 8x10's look better. Pretty good speed w/b&w and color though.

just out of curiosity, what type of paper are you printing on? i am having excellent results. i am currently using epson glossy photo paper. it is 52#, i know the manual says not to use over 28#, but for $80 i don't care if the paper messes it up. last night i printed some 8.5x11 borderless(almost borderless, because of ratio of 8x10) and they look excellent 🙂

Bob must be from New England - Pixmar .... 😉 ...
. I also have an iP3000 and it is great. Got mine when Staples had them for $60 plus a $10. gift check. It just now indicated that the magenta is running low and it really isn't that low but I ordered a replacement set (all four tanks for $11.00) from USAinkjet on eBay anyway. Sitting here waiting to print my Christmas cards as soon as the new version of PrintMaster I ordered arrives.
. Some of the print quality settings are NOT intuitive. Go to the Kodak site to determine the baseline for various papers. Use the settings for the Canon i560 as a starting point as that is the model the iP3000 replaced and it uses the same inks.
. No the Canon printers have MUCH less clogging problems than the Epsons. I tried to use some 3rd party ink in my Epson C82 and the head plugged up tight (and they are not inexpensive and easily user replaceable as are the Canon's) - no such problem with my Canons.
. And YES, real auto duplex (also works in the booklet mode) I specifically wrote newegg about their errors in the Pixma listings but they haven't changed them - but it is really slow so except for when I just need a few pages, I still use the old method - print a stack of one side, then put it back thru for the other, easily selectable in the driver.
. Great printers! Grab one if you can. Go to the Canon site to determine which model is right for your specific mix of printing.
. This week CompUSA has several Pixma models on sale. The iP4000 is probably the best all-around model in the line while the iP6000 (six-color) is better if most of your printing will be color photos. Believe it or not, PC World has the ip1500 (i45x replacement) as second on its Top Ten list... But they do weight their ratings too heavily on price.
