My parents are looking for a new speaker system for their new home in sunriver oregon. The only requirement of these speakers is this: They have to be very small, which means no big subwoofer, or anything. Any ideas guys?
Paradigm makes some really nice sounding speaker that I don't consider to be to big. You need to be a little more specific as to size requirements though.
Well, you could easily get a seperate sub, put it in a corner somewhere, and forget about it.
Paradigm makes nice and small speakers, but you should also check out the Klipsch satellites (they are the same satellites like the Promedia's use) Pic of Klipsch sats
Yep, Paradigm sounds like what you are looking for. You could put together a good 5.1 Paradigm system with that kind of money. Go to a local audio store (not some bix box electronics store) and ask to demo Paradigms. Tell them what you want and how much you can spend and they'll set you up. Don't forget to negotiate the prices.
I second the Take 5's. Got mine for about $800 (including subwoofer) from a Canadian outlet (took advantage of the currency weakness) and they really rock. My brother paid abour 3x as much for his system and he envies mine. They're unobtrusive but sound great.
I think the name of the guy I got them from was harrington audio. If you can't find the web site PM me & I'll try to find the guy's number. He was very nice, threw in a pair of stands for free and shipped them fast.
I have the JBL S-Series of speakers and PB12 subw00fer, which I chose over the Energy Take 5 system, but I still recomend the Energy's for you since size is important, and the JBL's are much bigger.
You don't mention what this is for but if it's home theater you want 5 speakers plus a sub ideally. With small main speakers they really should get a sub and hide it in the corner. For a good small speakers I would recommend 3 ACI Emeralds plus two ACI in-wall speakers. The in-wall rears sounds perfect for them if it's new construction, have the electrician run the speaker wiring. This setup will run a little over $1k, be unobtrusive and sound great. The dimensions for the Emeralds are 12x7x8", you aren't going to get a good speaker much smaller. As far as retail systems they might be interested in the Definitive Technologies ProCinema80 without the sub. The four main speakers are puny (7.75"H x 4.625"W x 5.125"D) and the center channel is fairly small too (5.25"H x 14.75"W x 5.75"D.) You can probably hear this system locally before buying it.
