Best 6800 (non-GT, non-Ultra) Overclocks

Hey all,

I'm planning on buying a 6800. Most of them seem pretty equal, so I want to get one with a good shot at a good OC. Please help me out by posting how high your cards clock. Also a chance to brag about your OC prowess.

Also, please lemme know if you have successfully unlocked the remaining 4 pipelines with Rivatuner (or other software).

Thnx in advance.

From the Techreport review, the Chaintech 6800 isn't a bad choice. click

Also, I don't think anyone would dare to try to unlock the 4 pipes because the procedure is irreversible by practical means and is almost guarenteed to give you a dead or broken card.

I saw an article where the author of Rivatuner had written into the NVStrap a gui to select 8, 12, or 16 pipes. That seems reversible to me. Also, people did it with all the 9800SE's and had fairly good results.

yes the newest Rivera Tuner should be comming out with a 16 pipe mod which IS reversable as its only software.

Either my internet is slow, or xbit-labs.com isn't working... but do read their extreme overclock article about the 6800/GT/Ultra, They mentioned that the bios flash does different things to the card and will not "flash back" as easily as ATi cards. The problem was that the 4 pipes that were enabled can't be disabled again, even if your device ID changes back the the plain 6800.

In that case, hope your 4 extra pipes aren't disabled because of faultiness!

Yes, that would be the key. But if they're there and they work, why not enable them? It's looking like free performance to me. The slower memory would then become the only difference between the NU and the GT that everyone is crazy about. It's a valid difference, but this development does make the NU that much more attractive to somebody like me with a fairly hard $300 cap.

Slower memory and 1/2 the amount of memory.

True, but 128 is enough for *most* games. Doom 3 is IMHO likely to remain the exception to the rule in this regard for a while. Anyway, I'm more interested in what kind of OC's to expect from the 6800 non-ultras.
