I heard those things make weird noises when loaded...

I would recommend a Corsair HX620 or a TX650/750.

They aren't the best but for the price range there pretty good. I also recommend the 620HX over the Thermaltake but then he would need to add about $50 to his price range.

Yes, don't think you'll find a RubyCon main capacitor inside the TT, but the recent Corsair HX620 builds have just that.

And I don't know which reviews you've been reading but most review sites honestly aren't that great at testing power supplies. One cannot fully appreciate how good a ps is just by hooking it up to a system and claiming it's great because it runs it without crashing. Do those reviews disassemble the ps and examine the componentry, such as transistors on the primary and secondary sides, in addition to just listing the caps?

HardwareSecrets is one site that does just that. HardOCP is another I'd trust, along with JonnyGuru's site. About the only 3 that really do ps testing worth a damn.

And like HardwareSecrets said:

Corsair HX620W is a terrific power supply and won?t let you down. In our tests it could really deliver its labeled power at 50º C, showed a terrific voltage regulation, it was very quiet, produced a very low electrical noise level and its efficiency was of at least 83%, peaking 88%. And the best of all: we could extract up to 746 W from it. So you will be basically paying for a 620 W product and bringing home a 740 W power supply.

In conclusion, Corsair HX620W is one of the best power supplies you can find on the market, pleasing both average users and enthusiasts.

Read the review here and esp. how they test.....

<--- Antec True Power Trio 650 or the earthwatt 650 for 50-60$ after rebate.

Corsair HX620W is a good one but it is also more expensive than the Antec one

Also built much better by far than the Earthwatts.....no OST caps inside any Corsair which you'll find in the Antecs, which is one reason they're cheaper. Use cheaper guts, get cheaper price and shorter warranty.

Like a review site said about Antec:

The only thing...is longevity. Keep in mind that the Antec is not built on the same platform as other Seasonics, such as the Corsair HX units, the PC Power and Cooling Silencer or Seasonic's own S12 and M12 models.

That is a matter of opinion

I think it is one of the best looking PSUs on the market.

Certainly better looking than most of these Raidmax or Apevia montsrousities....unless you are the type who likes to Rice up your car.

we are all entitled to our own opinions.. im not the only one that thinks its Fugly.. the cables are ugly and the red sticker is ugly.. but it works decent so i use a few of them.. luckly the case doesnt have a window yet or id have to rip the sticker off and void the warranty.. (ah didnt think about being able to rip the stickers off after warranty is up nice)
