Best $60-$80 video card for World Of Warcraft?

i reduced my lag greatly when i got back to 1gb of ram (from 512mb, one stick was being rma'd), altho i have a 6800gt so the graphics weren't a problem to start with.

I say no, that card would suck, and would be a waste of money, unless you're planning on being very fancy in "word" or "excel"...

get this card for a little more, but you'll at least do some decent gaming on it.

If your budget is really strict, you can go with a plain 9600 too.

If you can bump up to $100 range, a 9600 pro, a 6200 and unlock the pipes, or a used 9700 pro would be good options.

If you can't swing $100, used GF Ti 4200's can be had off ebay for about $45. Which aside from DX9 hardware acceleration will be faster than a GF 5200.

yup my ti4400 plays it beautifully with 1024*768 and graphics at maximum.

I'd look for something more current generation - a 6200 would be nice, or even a 9600 (technically last generation, but at least it's TRUE DirectX 9, whereas the FX5200 is only pseudo-DX9. If you try to run Source based games, i.e. HL2 and counterstrike: source, the FX series has to run in DX8.1, or face a 50% performance drop + graphics corruption in DX9).

BTW, a GF4 Ti is DX8.1, making it a tough sell. They are nice and cheap, but it's not a good investment. Not only will future games not run correctly, but even Microsoft's Avalon GUI won't run properly.

My brother in law has a plain 9600 and he can play Half Life 2 on it with no problems. Good option.

Newegg.com - Customer Reviews:
This card is nothing but awesome. I bought it to replace my ATI 9600 Radion Pro after having hardware conflicts causing World of Warcraft to crash. Since this new upgrade, I have been running as smooth as a charm. This card has been tested on Doom3, HL2, World of Warcraft, Hitman Contracts, and Dawn of War. No problems with any of the games. This card is worth way more then xx bucks... but I'm not going to complain. Thanks newegg.

😀

I find it hard to believe that a popular card like the 9600pro would have conflicts with WoW that have not been addressed.

Maybe that guy only uses the driver that is on the driver CD.
Afterall, the Fx5200 is a newer card, and it will certainlly ship with newer drivers.

A used GF4 is still a really good value as far as performance goes, but, as others have pointed out, it won't hold up in the newer games.

I read it, and looked back at it and saw that the cards we were talking about generally weren't tested by Anandtech.

I checked out Tom's Hardware too looking for some hard numbers but came up empty there too 🙁

A used GF4 for $50 or so is a nice option too.
