so, I decided I'm going to build another computer as a spare to keep at my other house when I'm there so I don't have to deal with my laptop for coding.

I'm hoping to spend $200 on the whole rig. I have alot of parts already, so the $200 is basically for cpu/mobo/ram/gfx card

I wanted to see what recommendations you guys have for the 'best' $50-$75 gfx card available?

thanks

"Pros: They say you need a really expensive graphics card to run the latest and greatest games, but that was a lie. I'm not running sli and dont have a really expensive rig but I do have crysis flying with this plain old cheap card."- Newegg review.

Hehe . . . at 640x480 and low details.

When it becomes available, the HD 3470 for $59 will probably be the best performer in that price range (it remains to be seen what nVidia's new 65nm low-end will be like.) The 3470 isn't going to break any speed records, but it'll play any game out there as long as you don't go crazy with the resolution. It also doesn't require any power except from the PCI-E slot and you'll definately see passively cooled versions as it will be a very cool GPU.

You could probably pick up a used 7900GS or X1900GT for 60-75.

edit: Also consider the 6800GT/ultra and the X850XT/PE

Locally, I am seeing $85. Cdn 8600GTS 256mb used. Ncix has a diamond 2600xt ddr3 256mb for $67 Cdn after rebate. Can you get older stuff for less? The used market has gotten into a freefall since newer cheaper cards are around the corner.
