Aside from any concerns on why I need 8GB RAM, I was wondering if someone could recommend me the best RAM for a Q6600 on a P5K Deluxe with a max of a 3.0 OC, for Vista 64-bit. By best, I mean, highest chances of working correctly without any issues or problems. I don't plan on ever OC'ing past 3.0, but I'm not quite clear on if I am "safer" by getting DDR2 800 RAM when dealing with four sticks of RAM.
I may or may not upgrade to a Penryn in a year or two, in case that might affect RAM choice now. I was all set on buying this:
Patriot eXtreme Performance 4GB(2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Retail @ $244.99
Until I realized that DDR2 800 is overkill for achieving a 3.0 OC on a Q6600. Now I'm leaning towards:
Patriot 4GB(2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Retail @ 189.99
Basically, I'm wondering if there's any reason whatsoever to get faster RAM if I never intend to OC past 3.0; and, are new issues introduced when using 4x2GB sticks of Patriot DDR2 667 that can be resolved by choosing faster or higher quality RAM?
