Hello ALL:

I have a friend who has a MoBo that only supports a 4X AGP slot. What would be a very good 4X AGP card for him that will allow him to play games as best as he can with this 4X AGP slot?

TIA

im gonna say ti4200 is a good choice or if he can get ahold of one a ti4600 also the 9700pro i think is 4x also 8x i believe is backwards compatible it will jus run a little slower so you can always go with a newer card

Thank you...

I only thought that if he could only go to 4X he may as well not spend the $$$ for the higher end cards.

He was trying to only spend $100 or so. I am drawing a blank on ti.

GeForce4Ti. How's that rock you've been living under for the last 3 years? :p

We really need a big sticky at the top of the Video forum that says "All 8X AGP video cards are backwards compatible to 4X speeds, and there is no performance difference between 4X and 8X AGP" in big letters. It's not as bad as it used to be, but this has still been asked a million times before.

My big rock is that I do not play games!

I know that 8X will work, but thought he may as well not pay for one if a 4x will be less expensive.

Thank you,
Dave

for 100 dollars: ATI 9500 pro or ATI 9700 non-pro (very hard to find, check ebay).

I will tell him...perhaps Saphire is still available. I wonder if a 9600 or 9600 Pro would be any good and is 128MB OK?

A 9700 would be solid if you can find it for $100.

128MB is fine. A 9600 pro would be ok if he can't get a 9700.
