Which 42" plasma offers the best PQ within my budget of $1,300? This is only for HDTV and DVD viewing. No computer or gaming.

I would prefer to buy from CostCo B&M. However I'm open to buying online or locally at Best Buy, Circuit City, Fry's, Video Only, etc.

Panasonic is #1 in that price range; Samsung is a close second.

Best Buy has the Samsung HP-T4254 on sale for $1199; minus $300 instantly for the DirecTV sign-up and you're at $900 out the door, which is about as low as you'll get for a brand-name 42" 720p plasma HDTV.

Frys has also had the Panasonic TH-42PX75U on sale for $1000 or less on the last few big sales days (most recently the day after Christmas sale).

Where does Pioneer Kuro rank?

What price range is the Kuro in?

Can you order with DirecTV sign-up then immediately cancel the following day?

Which is better the Samsung HP-T4254 or this Panny?

Thanks :)

IMO the Panasonic IQ is decent not better then the Samsung
and in build quality the Samsung feels nicer

I was recently in the OP's position for a screen and after much deliberation we went for the Samsung

I managed to pick up the Panasonic 42" 720p set (TH-42PX75U) for $711 out the door on BF. It's an absolutely stunning set.

If you have a PC Richards and Son around you, they have it on sale for $899. PM it to Sears and you'll be able to get 10% of the difference back. $1,099 at Sears, with the difference being $200 is an extra $20 in your pocket back. So you'll have it for $879 + tax OTD.

The Kuro is unbeatable, but well out of that price range. the most recent BB listing I saw was for ~$2700 for the 5080, and this is up from the $2500 ave. price a month ago. I could be wrong, but I think the Kuros start at 50"?

Make sure you check out the PX75U thread at AVSForums to see how people like it.

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=843204

Gotta love those mammoth threads, I'm surprised it's only 74 pages long :Q

Granted it is for all variants of the PX77U and PX75U, so that's what, 4 TVs?

Registering and using the search is a god send. My PX75U had a dead blinking pixel in the middle so I returned it to Sears today. Should have my new set on Monday. Funny thing is, the guy said as long as I had my receipt, I could buy as many sets as I want for $711 out the door. :Q

I seen a TH42PC77u in costco for $999 a few days ago ($300 off.) I also seen it at costco.com but now it's gone, the price may have gone back up in store too. I looks to be the same as the PX but with side inputs and a different finnish to the cabnet.

That would have been tempting since I am the #1 CostCo whore on AT, my Amex cc and standard 2 year warranty.

Are you dead set on a 42"? If not, the Samsung T5064 is on sale at Amazon for $1317 shipped and is one of the best Plasmas out, especially for the price. Consumer Report gave it a big thumbs up. The nice thing about Amazon is that if the price of the TV drops within 30 days of buying it, they'll refund the difference.

Nope, I'm open to larger sizes. Thanks for the tip I'll check it out and read some reviews.

The Panasonic commercials models have so many advantages in terms of adjustability and their PQ is terriffic. Read about these panels before you decide. If you do not need extras like built in speakers and plan to wall mount they are the way go, IMO. The ability to adjust each input separately and adjust the size of the pictures is invaluable if you plan to use with a computer. If you are intersted in calibrating the panel for the best possible PQ it is much easier on a commercial also. I have looked closely at every unit possible and have 3 Panasonics at present and would not trade for any other sets available. I have a 42", a 50" and a just arrived TH-65PF10UK. Panasonic also makes the 103" and the just announced 150" if you have the loot and a concrete wall to mount them on! Panasonic currently has a truck making the rounds of major cities displaying the 103" Plasma and other commercial models. The picture quality is astounding playing the Panasonic BD-1 demo disk on a Panasonic BD30 Blueray player.

The latest 10UK panels have some features not found on any other plasma available. You might want to do a little reading somewhere like AVS Fourms. Everyone has opinions, this is just mine, but virtually ever network and local station uses Panasonic Pro panels in their studios.
