RISE: That Sammy monitor looks nice. HDTV tuner is only important to have if you use a TV antenna. Sometime in the next year or two (I forget the date) TV stations will have to stop broadcasting regular TV and switch to HDTV. Older TVs with non HDTV tuners will no longer be able to receive broadcasts unless you buy a converter box.
HOWEVER you don't need an HDTV tuner if you're using a cable box or satelite, since you'll be connecting it via DVI or component. Since most people who own an HDTV probably have cable or satelite, it's not much of an issue.
The only thing nice about having the tuner is that some cable companies will give you a card that allows you to pickup all HDTV broadcasts without a cable box (using the TV's tuner instead). However you usually lose the fancy features of the box (like the channel guide). Comcast offers that option here, and my Panasonic has the built-in HDTV tuner, but I'd rather use their box and have the fancy channel guide.
I don't know what DRM issues are going to come up with HDTV.
BTW: I had the HDTV cable box installed a couple of weeks ago and it's great. We only have about 12 - 15 HDTV channels right now, but more are coming. The broadcasts in true 1080i are stunning.
I've also played one of the WMVHD IMAX videos (which are 1080i) from my HTPC on the Panasonic HDTV and it also looks stunning. I need to upgrade the processor in the HTPC though - the Athlon 1200 can barely play it. I have an Athlon 2200 that's going to get dropped in there next week. I did a search at Amazon.com for "WMVHD" and there's more than a dozen or more DVDs that support this format - including blockbusters line T2 and Spiderman (they apparently come with a regular DVD and a WMVHD DVD).
