Best 2GB Kit for Overclocking?

Looking at the $150-$200+ range for a 2GB memory kit.

I will overclock and want atleast DDR520+ performance, what are the top 3 or 4 sticks you guys would recommend?

SO far i am thinking the G skill HZ, some form of OCZ, or Mushkin, but I am not sure of which models to go with.

thx

If you go OCZ get sticks that are already rated at PC4000. The platinums rated at 3200 have great latency but are bad OC'ers.

I guess with that price range the mushkin and OCZ are out of the question. Go with the G.Skill, I think newegg got some 2GB ddr500 kit for like 174-5 after rebate.

Mushkin Extreme and G.SKILL HZ are identical inside, UCCC/Brainpower. The extra $ buys you Mushkin reputation and service, which is more of a known quantity. Up to the buyer to decide if it's worth the extra $.

G.SKILL HZ is $174 after instant and mailin rebates @ the Egg :Q <- that's a hell of a deal!!

I can spend over $200, but I would like some options, if there is killer ram for $225 I am game, just somewhere in the $200 ballpark. I probably dont need the best ram, but one that can hit 260-270+ mhz

That is definitely the best choice for overclocking RAM. However, I still recommend going with $140 value RAM.

Yeah, i am really likeing the G skill as a good value buy, but what are the top one or two max FSB sticks out? Are there any sticks that can hit close to DDR600 still in production?

I'm just trying to stretch the value here, I plan on keeping this rig until mid to late 2007 with possibly picking up a second hand X2 chip next year. I would like some FSB headroom.

Strange though, I had the GSkill first, it failed Memtest. RMA'd it, got some more and it passed, thought it was fine. Built another system and bought the Mushkin, passed Memtest. Went to O/C that system and get quite a bit higher with the 3700+ memory wise than I did with the 3200+ in the other system. Just for S's & G's I swapped the ram and quala, the 3200+ clocked up to 2.7 but the 3700+ wouldn't get close to where it was (2.8). Ordered me another 2GB's of the Mushkin and quala, the 3700+ was back up to where it was.

I don't know if it was "luck of the draw" twice or what, but I'll stick to Mushkin or other well knowns like OCZ/Corsair......perhaps they get better chips or perhaps I'm just unlucky with GSkill!😉

yeah.. lol im running my 4x 512 MB OCZ on a divider right now. I just sold all 4 sticks and will be able to basically trade the money i make for new ram, so I dont mind spending a few extra bucks.... if its a small cost premium.

Some HZ kits have done incredible things, some batches have trouble passing 270. My kit falls into the latter category it seems. I don't really mind, with my 3700+ I'm only looking at the 250-260 HTT range for its operation. But it runs on 2.5 volts 🙂 which is great, I run WC and don't have scads of air movement in the case to cool hot RAM.

OCZ DDR5000 EL Dual CH Gold

Go with that, I know it will work nicely plus OCZ has some pretty decent deals going on now.

noooooooooo stay away from the ballistix 2gb pc4000 kits. read the 75 page thread HERE on how bad it is. newegg even took it off the shelves for a while. google "ballistix failure" and you'll see. i'm on my second set (RMA'd). my second set is doing great after 2 months (knocks on wood) at 250 3-3-3-8 1T 2.7v

i would go with these, but they're pricey. these would be my second choice.

i think you would want the mushkin redline, or the ocz EB stuff. i linked the EB in my previous post.
