Best 2D quality out there is?

I just got myself a Samsung 240T 24 inch tft and it's nice. I'm just wondering if there is a big difference in 2d quality on gfx cards nowadays.
I know my friends gf2mx really sucked ass at 1920*1200 cuz I tried it. I'm using a Sapphire 9000 pro in my own puter and it looks nice.. But.. since I've got such a nice monitor i think it could very well be worth it to upgrade the gfx cards if I could attain even higher picture quality with another card.
I remember Matrox used to be king of 2d.

Anyone got any comments?

I think most people still regard Matrox(myself included) as top dog for image quality ,however you don`t say if gaming is important to you, if not then the Matrox G550 is a very good choice, gaming wise probably one of the ATI cards like 9600 Pro,9700,9800 models depending on your price.

Samsung 240T, IIRC- DVI input right(widescreen 24" LCD, nice monitor IIRC)? Doesn't make a difference which board you get in terms of 2D image quality if you are using DVI. DVI sends a pure digital signal to the monitor, no RAMDAC or filtering to alter the quality of the signal. All DVI boards should be, for lack of a better word, perfect in terms of 2D quality(limited only by your monitor).

Taken from the review here .

the Samsung 240T list the maximum supported resolution under DVI 1280x1024 it seems this display is better suited for use with the analog connector. In reality we were able to work with 1600x1200 @16bit color -

So if you want to use 1920*1200 looks like you will have to use analog mode.

Maybe not, here is a Thread at AVSforums which sure "seems" to indicate that it does indeed support 1900x1200 digital, even using a single-link DVI which "usually" has a max 1920x1080 max resolution at 165Hz via single-link TMDS transmitter. Apparently the Samsung can advantage of all the uneeded blanking and refresh intervals to transfer pixel data to make up the difference. Its worth the read.

Hey there peeps.. Thanx for the replies. I thought getting this monitor to 1920*1200 on dvi would not be possible but now it seems it may be possible after all. I have to get a DVI cable tomorrow to try it out. IF it works I won't have to worry about getting a new gfx card.

Hey all.. Thought I'd give ya an update. I got a dvi cable and wow! The picture is so much brighter now and the colours are even better than be4!! It is also much clearer and the dvi really makes the not so high dot pitch a LOT less noticable. So I guess I don't have to get a new gfx card after all which is good because this thing didn't come very cheap!!

Using dvi comes at a price though. DVI is only capable of 52 hz at this resolution. Though this isn't a problem for me since the picture is still rock solid and the only game I play is chess 🙂 And movies look alright as well.

Yep using DVI rocks,no way would I part with my Belkin DVI Pro series Dual link cable on my 9700NP/Samsung 191T monitor, very crisp image 🙂.

I'm curious ... have you a noticed a difference compared to the DVI cabled bundled with the 191T?

My Samung 191T didn`t come with any DVI cable(only the normal VGA analog cable) so I had to buy one, however my analog quality with the supplied VGA cable was pretty good but using DVI is a noticeable improvement IMHO.
